Now is there any news or leaks about next round of HD Channels coming to ATT UV. I have seen rumors circulating around the net stating ATT will have a total of around 80 HD channels in their national Channel Line up, coming later this summer for UV. But I won't believe until I see it.

Is it possible that the later date in each category is WHDVR (Whole-Home DVR)? I have a sneaking suspicion that it is.
Robin Murphy @ Jun 12th 2008 9:15AM
That would mean some of the homes would already have it... that would be awesome if it is though. When I talked to a sales person last week, the ETA for WHDVR was still a general Fall timeframe. I'm happy enough with the 2/2 for now, the WHDVR will just be gravy.
andrewgreene @ Jun 12th 2008 9:16AM
I wouldn't think so. I'm in the Indy area (3rd date listed was 6/1/08) and I've yet to see WHDVR. I did see my 2HD/2SD show up the evening of 5/30 though. I keep hearing June 30 might (emphasis on 'might') be the start of the rollout for WHDVR. I'll believe it when I see it (U-Verse customers say that a lot, don't we?).

Whole room dvd should should be rolled out q3. and if you were already a member when the 2hd/2sd rolled out just reset your residential gateway or call billing to see if its available in your area yet and they should be able to set you up. to soft reset just hold on to the oblong power button for a few secs til 3 lights come on then release. Just keep checking.

Wow! I read this list when I got home from work. Turned on the TV and looked in the system properties of the box and there it was 2HD/2SD along with the required 9Mb addition bandwidth overhead for it. Some on uverseusers.com sad their picture quality had decreased, but it looks the same to me. I have had the service since November and have noticed a gradual increase in picture quality. It used to be blocky as hell. OTA was way better, but now it is just marginally better. I look forward to more channels this year. I will probably cancel if I cannot see second half of BSG in HD

4 HD streams will be avaliable by 2009. 100 HD channels by 09 as well. Whole Home DVR by 3Q 08. No idea on what those extra channels will contain. Maybe Mojo and SciFi. Who knows. New Technology may not need FTTP/FTTH but I would like to see FTTP/FTTH. Too bad the beancounters didn't like it though. In order to have FTTP/FTTH they would just replace the copper with fiber in the VRAD.
tRodHxC @ Jun 14th 2008 10:19PM
just like rendezvous said...as soon as they get FTTP (Fiber to the Premise) and replace that copper, who knows what else we'll recieve. Whole Home DVR is not far out though.
rendezvous65 @ Jun 18th 2008 9:12PM
4HD is expected to fit on the Current profile. That means an even worse codec or compression. There are rumors of 8 streams. Maybe 4HD and 4SD. Whole home DVR is expected to roll out soon. If FTTP comes out then it could allow over 10 to 12 streams if not more. IPSL and VDSL 2 could replace VDSL. Some people say that the cap will be raised to over 50 mbps. That way more streams. Don't expect 16 to 25 mbps HDTV since U-verse doesn't have the bandwidteh. Not with the current system at least. MPEG-4 and VC-1 could be good enough for u-verse. FTTP with enhanced MP4 could make it much much better.
NavyMSU @ Jun 19th 2008 1:35PM
I'm in Houston, and somehow, although I just realized it now, I had recorded on one HD channel and watched on another.. i'm going to verify when i get home.
rendezvous65 @ Jun 20th 2008 3:32AM
Well I really doubt FTTP. I could see u-verse FTTP in new affluent Housing developments by greedy developers. AT&T is trying to use FTTN. They say there are technologies that can get them more bandwidth but their bean counters are too cheap to install FTTP in all areas. Maybe if FiOS comes to uverse areas then they might just bite the bullet. The good news is that 100 HD channels is possible since IPTV is switched video. Only the channels that are being watched are broadcasted. AT&T says 100 HD channels is possible by next year.
Casey @ Jun 20th 2008 7:35PM
Be nice if they'd just get it installed period in our part of San Diego. The VRAD's have been around forever but no service!!
rendezvous65 @ Jun 20th 2008 11:26PM
U-verse is already available in RB. I have seen a few VRADS. Dont know where you live but it's in San Diego. U-verse is a switched network so more HD is possible. Hope this helps.
rendezvous65 @ Jun 24th 2008 5:36PM
Total Home DVR is the new name for Whole Home DVR.
