Blu-ray releases on June 10th, 2008
Although any week would look weak compared to last's, we can't help but feel let down. Sure, there are a few pretty hot day-and-date titles like Jumper, The Bucket List and The Other Boleyn Girl; but of the three, only one has much Blu appeal and it has an unbelievably low IMDB score of 5.9. But we still can't help but want to check it out based on the rave reviews that the audio and video got -- what's not to love about DTS-HD MA 48kHz/24bit? The best news for Blu this week though, is that unlike most other weeks, DVD doesn't have any exclusives to talk about. There are a few comedies that should be worth a look though, like Be Kind Rewind and Witless Protection, as well as a few catalog westerns like Broken Trail and The Professionals. This is pretty much what June has to offer though, as there are only 10 titles left on the schedule, and only two that we think people will get excited about.Blu-ray

- Broken Trail (2006) (Sony)
- The Bucket List (Warner)

- Girls Gone Wild: Hottest Moments Ever (Mantra)
- Heart: Alive in Seattle (Image)

I have Be Kind Rewind and The Professionals preordered. I was considering The Signal, since I'd heard it was a pretty decent movie, but I want to see some reviews on that before I jump in.
I'm bummed that Jumper got such terrible reviews, since I'm a fan of Doug Liman for his great past work (Swingers, Go, The Bourne Identity). All I can think is that the studio somehow mucked things up for him this time around.

Hm. I just checked, and Amazon is showing Be Kind Rewind as releasing next week, on June 17. Blu-ray.com and High Def Digest are showing the same. Methinks maybe it shouldn't be on there for this week?

Amazon only shipped The Professionals, so it's next week for Be Kind Rewind.

Quite predictably sales figures reflect the popularity of titles. I expect we're going to see a raise for Cloverfield and a dip for a week or two because the titles are decent but just not blockbusters. The Spiderwick Chronicles and 10,000BC turn up a week later so it will raise again. Just as predictable will be the usual crybabies screeching "teh blu ray iz doomed" whenever the figures drop.

No comment on the GGW release?
I understand many folks fear "regular" pr0ns in HD since porn-stars are typically older and pimplier and more scarred-up than they appear in SD...any thoughts on the young things in GGW videos?

Sorry, I watched one of those 5-7years ago and I felt like a pedophile the entire time.
Can't imagine watching one of those now I'm in my early 30's. Porn, definitely. GGW, no way.
Nfinity @ Jun 9th 2008 5:29PM
Ha ha.. you feel like a pedophile looking at hot 19 and 20 yr.old co-eds? I'm in early 30s and I date only girls between 20-25 (okay maybe closer to 22+ but still not a HUGE age difference between the two).. there's nothing pedophile about it.. they are pretty much adults..though not as mature as me, you or a woman in her late 20s they are not really babies.
Though I don't watch these because they are sleazy as hell and these girls are completely getting exploited.. since I caught a glimpse of the shoots they did in the sleazy motel and hotel rooms.
But I don't mind hot 19/20+ yr olds.. that's the start of their best years.. its' not like they can be my daughters :)

"Though I don't watch these because they are sleazy as hell and these girls are completely getting exploited.. "
That was my insinuation. Maybe the pedophile comment was a bit much.
But, yes, you are correct. Those guys *prey* on 18-20yrs who are drunk off their ars. Who knows, those slimeballs probably supply most of the liquor (or whatever else is being used).
Of course, the same could be said of the Porn industry.

I would be interested in seeing the GGW flick just to see the quality. But buy it? Doubtful.

Great movies this week!
Funkybrunk @ Jun 9th 2008 10:05PM
Geez. Not a single comment on Natural Born Killers? One of the truly great cinematic statements about violence and sensationalist media,. I've seen it many times , and now I'll see it again for the crazy effects and cinematography of Mr. Stone, now in HD.
Funkybrunk @ Jun 9th 2008 10:07PM
oops. not intended as a reply...

Jumper should be here today from Netflix. Hope it's decent.
