Sony's HT-IS100 HTIB features micro-drivers
Sony continues its series of home theater updates today with a new HTIB, the HST-S100. Like some previous Sony packages, the HST-S100 doesn't feature a central receiver, instead integrating the 450W amplifier, 3 HDMI ports and Sony Digital Media Port right into the back of the sub. Furthering the stealth factor, the five speakers themselves are no bigger than strawberries -- which has us wondering about mid-range performance, but we'll withhold judgement until we actually hear 'em. You get some other mid-high-end goodies for your $700 as well, like S-AIR wireless speaker capability, Bravia SYNC for Theater, which simplifies operation with select Sony gear, and auto speaker calibration. Should be out in July, we're told.

If this sounds anything like the Sony Davis system (or Dav1S or whatever it's called), this is going to sound pretty horrible.

I'm with Marshall. The Dav1s is an absolute turd. Not sure of the power but even at full volume, a regular flat panel will get just as loud and sound almost as good! Save the bucks and get a better BluRay player and put the rest into a fund towards REAL audio. Now you have a use for that swear jar you've kept in the garage for years...

I actually saw this in action up here in Canada, at a Sony Store ... the one at Scarborough Town Centre. I think these little suckers were quite powerful, especially since we were listening to the 2 rear only, the demo didn't have the front 3 going.
It roxors my boxers, but alas the price tag was not in my favor.

Even Bose is good in comparison. The issue with the Sony system is there is literally a midrange driver built into the top of the subwoofer - as a 1" driver cannot do much below what, 800 KHz?

Any chance that's just a big strawberry? :-D

these speakers sound like garbage. Its like listening to 5 tweeters and a subwoofer...there is just no replacement to a big 3 way speaker....

But you know there will be plenty of people out there who swear it sounds awesome just because there's sound all around them, even though that sound isn't very good.

As well, the only people buying this will be women, or men trying to impress their woman...

God damn that's a big strawberry.
