Sony gets official with XBR6 / XBR7 / XBR8 HDTV lineup
Aw yeah, those svelte Sony XBRs that were leaked back in mid-April have just been confirmed by Sony, and it's going to be a long, sweaty summer waiting for the whole load to land this fall. Kicking things off is the XBR8 series, headed by the 55-inch KDL-55XBR8 and 46-inch KDL-46XBR8 models, which incorporate the outfit's TRILUMINOS three-color LED backlight technology, 10-bit processing, BRAVIA Engine 2, Motionflow 120Hz and Advanced Contrast Enhancer PRO. The 70-inch KDL-70XBR7 and 40-inch KDL-40XBR7 headline the XBR7 lineup, while the XBR6 features sets range from 32- to 52-inches in size. All the gritty details are waiting below -- if you feel like waiting 'til tomorrow for Sony's glacially slow servers to load, that is.

33 kilobucks for the 70-incher. Yeah, right. Come on manufacturers, bring back the RPTVs and give consumers a break!

Sorry, that was the price of the previous 70" XBR3 LCD. I guess we'll have to wait to see if the 70" XBR7 can break the magic $29,999.99 barrier. LOL.

Wow, a 70" LCD from Sony? You mean just like the one they announced
in September of 2006? The one that shipped in .......?????
Oh that's right, it NEVER shipped! Sony, I still have that blank
space on the wall waiting for it, if it EVER comes........

Don't know what Sony was thinking with the design with these. The XBR4 and XBR5 looked a helluva lot better than these. Whats up with the ugly floating bars on the sides and bottom? Can u get more BUTT???? At least the new Z series looks decent. Sony is doing themselves in.

55" is a start, but how about a solid 60" model that was say, $6k.
Anyone notice the wall 52" for LCD's? Sure, there are 65 and 70" models, but they are generally 5 digits.
Why was the 57" category abandoned?
Who remembers the awesome 70" XBR SXRD set that was sh!tcanned? They would have been sweet.

Sony has been shipping a 70" LCD for quite a while. The KDL70XBR3. I work for a custom install company, and when i was at the Sony Dealer show in Vegas a couple months ago, they hinted that the new 70" would be about 1/2 the price.

Why the heck would ANYONE buy a 70" LCD?
They've actually got one here at a Sony shop in Melbourne.
It's pretty cool and all, but I'm sure a projector would have a much better image. Surely, if you wanted that kind of size, a projector is the ONLY logical way to go.

Wow, that would put it at about $16,000.00 MSRP which is still astronomically high and not even in the ballpark when figuring the rumored figure of the 55XBR8 Top of the line series RGB LED triluminous at about $6500.00. If it's more than $8,000.00 MSRP then Sony has waisted it's time and money on the XBR7 series altogether. Remembering back to that canned 70XBR5 series TV that MSRP was around $5,500.00, this version has a few added perks which should add some to it's MSRP but I don't think it should add up to $2,500.00 more so I'm hoping it comes in at around $6,999.00 and no more.

I've put together a chart that helps show the differences between the Sony LCD 2008 line up. Hope it helps.
