It factory defaults to 4 hours. To make sure it it still on when your VCR is recording, you'll need to set the Power Down timer to "off". Set it via the Menu -> Function -> Time -> Power Down -> Off (see page 11 of the users manual). After you do this it will stay on all the time (with increased power consumption), so remember to turn if off when you're no longer using it.

Chris

Comments on Digital Stream DTX9950 converter box touts analog pass-through

Does the DTX9950 work with a VCR timer? To get stereo sound with your Digital TV picture you'll need to use the three RCA jacks (composite video, L & R audio outputs) on the back of the box. It is likely that the other converter boxes that you can buy with your $40 government coupon are similar in this regard. As other user's have reported, setting the "Preferred Connection" to "Line Out" drops the audio signal level by about 10 db for some unexplained reason, so if you want a reasonable output level similar to what you're getting with analog TV, I suggest that you keep this at its default "CH 3/4" setting. Doing this will give you a good audio level at the RCA jacks, which you might want to lower just a bit using the DTX9950's volume control to about 16 (out of 20) for the very best results. Doing this will give you good sounding stereo recordings with your VCR, DVD-R or when viewing on your TV. Although using the built-in channel 3 (or 4) RF modulator makes it easy to hook-up the DTX9950 when you first get it home, connecting to the three RCA jacks will not only give you an improved picture but it also delivers the best audio to your equipment at the same time.

Chris

Comments on Digital Stream DTX9950 converter box touts analog pass-through

How do you add channels

carol

Comments on Digital Stream DTX9950 converter box touts analog pass-through

I just got one of these at Radio Shack.
