Cox to give Phoenix TiVo users free tuning adapter to cope with SDV
Aw, now isn't this just the sweetest thing you've ever seen? Cox has found the generosity to not only send out information to let Phoenix, Arizona subscribers know about the forthcoming implementation of SDV (July 1st, if you're wondering), but to promise a free tuning adapter to CableCARD-using TiVo Series3 / HD owners to boot. In all seriousness, we only wish every other cable company out there would handle this situation in a similar manner, but things just can't be this easy everywhere, right? Check the read link for the full letter.

Awesome. This news made my day. Cox HD channels here in Kansas haven't switched to SDV yet but will sometime this year so that will be just in time for the tuning adapters to be introduced. Hopefully Cox Kansas follows the lead of Cox Phoenix.

Does the tuning adapter allow TiVo users access to VoD/PPV content? If so, it's really in their best interest to provide it to customers for free. I don't know of any plans for Cox San Diego to start using SDV, but if they do it's nice to know that a $0 precedent is being set.

They also are allowing current CableCard users to get an HD CableBox for $2 a month for the next 6 months to use On-Demand functionality.

And then bumps it right up to the regular price of $12. $12 a month for the HD box? Come on... $18 for the HD DVR, not including the DVR service fee. So sad.

This kind of surprises me. I live in Phoenix and have Cox - and they have always seemed like the company to F you out of every dime they could.

Any word on how Time Warner is reacting to this? They are heavily into SDV already (especially here in Austin), and I have had nothing but pain in dealing with them. Wondering if they'll even bother telling their customers about this.
