Besides, I saw at least two incidents where ppl bricked their players doing firmware update via internet. So, disc update is a preferred way to do it.

The new firmware fixed most of the known issues. Since previous firmware supported DTS 5.1 (core) to PCM on the analog outs, it is not immediately clear if DTS-MA is now available on analog out. This is only testable with certain discs (e.g. Pan's Labyrinth) that provide 7.1 DTS-MA and a setup that can test the surround back outputs from analog out. Presumably this will be known by day end.

All disc incompatibilities are reported fixed, but this may change.

One thing still complained about: SD 4:3 appears stretched on some TVs.

Note that, using analog out 5/7.1, one can get all new audio formats into an AVR that has no HDMI, so long as it has 5.1 or 7.1 audio jacks in.
