You'd be able to capture unencrypted content (like your local stations), but if that's all you want, get the HDHomeRun instead.<br><br>The only way to get digital content to a PC is via the "analog hole".  Hence the component inputs.<br><br>I just hooked mine up and now I can record all my HD programming on my PC's 640 GB hard drive (as opposed to the miniscuel 160GB drive in comcast's box).
