No, my receiver is great (Onkyo TX-SR705), I just feel like those two middle speakers on the back wall are sitting there and looking pretty as opposed to doing something. For anything that's plain old Dolby Digital, I keep it set to Doldy Digital EX, so at least something comes out of them.
I honestly think 7.1 was a pretty unnecessary addition to the next-gen video specs. Movies are not mastered in 7.1 for theatrical release, so a 7.1 home theater release would require a complete rework of a soundtrack from the ground up. I suspect that's why we see so few of them, relatively.

Why is every movie 5.1? What was the point of me buying a 7.1 system again?

Your up-conversion receiver not performing well enough? Yeah, 5.1 eats dirt compared to 7.1 but thx ultra 2 cinema sounds great for 5.1 sources.

Am I the only person alive who doesn't care about 7.1?
A good 5.1 system sounds good enough to me. I'd rather have more space for video bitrate.

I'm happy with 5.1, personally.
