Jack Ryan fans have been teased by
Paramount for almost a year now -- first
The Jack Ryan Collection was announced for both formats, then only for HD DVD. When it was finally released
it was a disaster and
was recalled. Now here we are almost a year later and according to DVD Town, only two of the four movies will be available on Blu-ray on July 29th. To make things worse, the best movie in the series,
The Hunt for Red October is MIA and there's no mention of when we may see it. Don't get us wrong, we like all four movies, and we're glad we'll get to see
Patriot Games and
Sum of all Fears in HD, but exactly how long does it take to remaster four movies in HD and press a few Blu-ray Discs?

I'm starting to think we'll see Star Wars on blu-ray before Hunt for Red October! Come on Paramount get off your ass and git r dun.

I saw Hunt for Red October on HDNet just a couple months ago in glorious HD, so clearly an HD master exists - also, it existed on HD DVD, so that could be ported.
I don't know what they're waiting on, unless they just don't think catalog titles like this well sell well.

I guess better than nothing? I still want my Red October on BR!!!!!!!!!! It's my favorite of the series. It's a classic.

Let's hope this time they at least include the extras they were supposed to have in there originally on the HD DVDs. I'm actually glad they're not forcing a box set buy of these movies. The Sum of All Fears was one of the most disappointing movies I saw that year.

I was really impressed with the HD DVD version of Hunt for Red October. Best movie of the boxset.

Finally.. this collection was like a ghost on HD DVD. It showed up and got pulled before I could hit order button.
All good movies, I just hope they'll do good encodes. Definitely one to own. Classics.

And Ben, it's obviously harder to replicate. You will answer your question when you count how many replication facilities are working full time. The costs and time restraints are most likely the main reason for delays.
As far as I know there are only 3 or 4 replication factories serving ALL dual layer 50gb BD replication out of which Sony owns half, Cinram and I think one more. Panasonic does testing but I don't think they do replication.
It's easy to see why it takes long time to get discs out when all studios are stacked in replication wait lines.
