Engadget HD Podcast 086 - 05.28.2008
After an almost two week hiatus, we're back to try and add some insightful commentary to all the HD news. The Cable Show was the biggest thing going down, and in retrospect there wasn't much to it. But moving forward with tru2way is kind of interesting and we can't wait to see how it all turns out. At the same time the Blu-ray news is pretty slow right now, but we are looking forward to all the releases in June. Blu-ray isn't the only way to watch movies these days as downloads are ramping up with a new player in the way of Ruku via Netflix, but we're not impressed. The other thing that doesn't impress us is the new ESPN WiFi remote, which we just don't understand, while at the same time wish the remote had a better button layout. Get the podcast

Sad to say, but I was having Engadget HD podcast withdrawal.

The mp3 is short.

OK, got the full download now.
How about putting bluetooth on a remote to connect to the computer, oh, and maybe that PS3 thing as well. Why no on has done this is beyond me. People are already paying $20 for a PS3 remote, don't you think they would give out an extra $100 for a real remote?

yay!

That was, by far, the worst sounding podcast you've ever recorded. Hey Trent: have you heard about COMPRESSION !
Since Ben and Steve go from whisper quiet to thundering laugh in less than a second, maybe you should think about using a compressor/limiter.
Listening to this in my car has me constantly playing with the volume.

Hard to believe a technology oriented blog doesn't seem to master technology...

Really Jay? Sounded fine to me - maybe you are having hardware problems?
Ben @ Jun 3rd 2008 8:36AM
Josh,
Are you also listening in your car? The reason it matters is because the sound floor is so much higher in a car that dynamic audio can be a problem. The problem is caused by having to turn up the audio to hear us at the low points because the car is a noisy place, then when we get excited we blow him out. The same thing happens to people at home when watching movies. You can hardly hear the dialog over the dish washer, then you turn it up, and when an explosion occurs it wakes up the entire neighborhood.
