I guess you're pretty happy that Blu ray won the war then so that you could pay two to three times as much for players and get NOTHING for free. Yeah, that sounds like a scam to me.

1. look at the specs (or lack of, shall I say, particularly in the audio area)
2. look at the brand
3. look at yourself in the mirror and ask, "would I really buy this blu-ray player?"
And in the mirror, (if it's clean) you should start to a nice, shiny PS3 appear, for only $50 more, and more than making up for no $100 of movies.

I'm not sure what you're getting it. It has HDMI to pass on everything to your receiver and let it do all the audio decoding, or you can use the optical to do that as well.
The player looks like it does everything except 2.0 profile, which is doesn't mean much at this point.

How do we even know it bitstreams DTS-MA/TrueHD? The PS3 doesn't even, and can't unless it's given a hardware revisoin, bitstream DTS-MA.
For Audio, this thing sucks. And I wouldn't count on its video performances either. There are much better players for your money.

I don't want a PS3. I understand that it's quite highly rated as a Blu-ray player, however, I don't need another game system and, personally, I think it's ugly. Also, it's not compatible with my Harmony remote without an adapter (adding more money). So, adding up the difference you get $50 difference in price, $100 in free movies and $55 for the remote adapter. That's a $205 difference. Quite a bit if you ask me. Now, regarding the specs...if it plays movies then it does it's job. People always moan about how players don't do this, or that they do such and such poorly. When it comes right down to it if it plays movies then it works. I'm not saying that I'm running out to buy this player but at the price point it's at I think it's a viable choice for many, many people. I can't believe that at $350 it's at the bottom of the spectrum though. Wow.

Looks like stores are starting to fire their first volleys for their fathers day promotions. The same player is in Walmart for $50 less. You'd have to see the coupons to see if its worth taking them or the cash. Didn't someone say the BB player had an HDMI cable in the box too? Its not much but its another minor difference. If I were paying $350 I would buy the new samsung instead, or wait for these players to drop a bit and use the rest for some movies.

Not good enough. Considering that Best Buy has very high prices for their Blu-ray movies, I don't think that @100 coupon is much of an incentive. If they made it a $100 coupon card to be used on anything in the store, then I'd bite.

You guys aren't reading between the lines. What you do in this situation is buy the player, use the coupons then return the player a few days later :).

i think if you return the player without the coupon book that they deduct that value from the money that they return to you. not positive, but that's how other deals work.

A great collection? I have a feeling this is as great a Collection as the movies I had to choose form on the free Sony offer with the PS3 at Christmas.
Of the 5 I will likely watch 1.

you obviously dont have any experience w/ big volume retailers...when they give out free gift cards or promotional items, if you dont return it w/ the original product...well, you wont get your full receipt value back. but if you want to, go ahead n' return it...but dont be surprised when you get 250 back instead of 350

Are you suggesting that even if you physically walk out of the store with a receipt showing a full refund, that Best Buy could, or ever did to your knowledge, charge the difference after the fact?

no, i'm saying that at the time the transaction is done, it will be corrected. the person working the register will notice it immediately, as you if you still have the free product, if not you loose the credit. i worked there a very long time, and i know how it works. plus it also happened to me one time, to no surprise. exchanged a media center for a router, but the router came w/ a $50 gift card. when i returned the router because it wouldn't work w/ my setup, i got the value of my router back less the $50. i didn't even use the gift card yet, but they know that you will so they take it off automatically
