Not all HD movie channels are created equal, and while there are a few that have the latest and greatest movies, for whatever reason those seem to be the same ones that choose to crop the video and normalize the audio. At the same time that there are more HD movie channels then ever, there are also more Blu-ray titles available to compete with your time; so with many choices out there what is your favorite HD movie channel?

netflix ftw

I agree Netflix rules but it's not exactly a "channel." This poll should've been named "What's your favorite HD source."

I don't think Universal HD should be on this list because they now play commercials during the movies
LiqwidZero @ May 22nd 2008 3:45PM
I own about 130 HD DVDs, so I'm pretty much set until I finally pony up for a PS3.

I use Xbox Marketplace for HD movies. Of course, 5-9 GBs per movie is a pretty loose definition of "HD"

I'm glad to see that "none" came out on top.
The cable companies should burn in hell for all the associated charges that come with HD. If you think your cable bill is expensive now, wait till you go HD. It get's worse. My cable bill went from just under $100(cable and internet) to $150 after I got an HDTV.
It's the biggest rip off going.
And the killer, OTA(over the air) HD broadcasts are better than cable TV HD feeds.

where is the choice for none. I love HD material but I dont own a BD player (due to the crazy high price) or pay for cable tv. OTA all the way!
With that said when BD comes to a reasonable $ i will get one (

How about those of us with out even an HD box? Plus I still NetFlix SD DVDs.
cckrobinson @ May 22nd 2008 5:49PM
I'm stilling living with OTA HD and basic analog cable. Once Comcast flips the analog switch I'll be forced to either pickup a CableCard for my TivoHD or consider other alternatives. I was content with HD-DVD until Netflix gave them the finger. There are still quite a few HD-DVD's on my queue but that's fading fast.

HDNet Movies plays an amazing variety of films, from recent releases to old classics like Lawrence of Arabia (stunning in HD!) and Dr Strangelove and dozens of other National Film Registry titles. It's as if the schedule is built by people who legitimately love film as an art form, not just film as a business.
I have Time Warner Cable and it blows, but I am so happy they provide this channel even if it is on the HD tier. I've been thinking about switching to either U-Verse or DirecTV, but before I do either I'm making sure they provide this channel, because if they don't I won't!

I'm surprised to many people said HBO HD when they don't keep OAR.
Mr. E @ May 22nd 2008 8:32PM
Yeah, I was just about to post this as well. Showtime was my pick, because at least they show their movies in OAR, and they have some half decent series as well.
I wish I had the chance to check out HDNet movies, but no such luck on my cable system.
pathfinda @ May 22nd 2008 7:28PM
..um, I'm a DiscoveryHD fan....
normyk @ May 23rd 2008 1:28PM
Right with ya there. My favorite channel.
Mikey @ May 23rd 2008 10:11AM
Cinemax has the most movies and would be my first choice but they too often crop anything over 1.85 so I go with Starz which usually preserves the proper aspect ratio as does Showtime. I know a lot of people hate Comcast but the Starz HD on demand channel has loads of great movies I can watch at my leisure. I also have a large selection of HD DVD's and Blu Rays so I get to see a good cross section of both quality and quanity (and of course both the optical HD formats are at the top of the list for PQ).

Time Warner charges extra for HDNet.

I used to think HDNet, but now I refuse to pay for the channel only because of Mark Cuban. He hates the United States, so he no longer will receive my money.
I sometimes watch TNT HD and the others I cannot comment either because I do not pay for them or have no reason to watch...their content is lacking anything interesting.

"Mark Cuban. He hates the United States, so he no longer will receive my money."
That's the funniest thing I ever heard!
Pzizzle @ May 26th 2008 2:33PM
Mark Cuban doesn't hate the U.S. I think you're getting him confused with Michelle Obama.
