Hands-on with the Cisco Tuning Adapter STA1520

Unlike Motorola's Tuning Adapter demo, Cisco's wasn't a functional demo, but basically the two boxes do the same thing. The Cisco version is considerably bigger (the box on the top is a basic digital converter, not the TA), but includes the same exact connections. While Moto claims its adapter will be available in July, Cisco is saying it'll come sometime during the 3rd quarter, which could mean the same thing. Like Moto, Cisco is reusing an existing STB form factor so although it appears the box has a CableCARD slot, it doesn't.

Ben, couuld you tell us the approximate the dimensions of that box?

A bit less convenient to toss on the floor behind the HT equipment cabinet than Moto's MTR700, but not utterly unreasonable.

Size does matter!!!

How does size matter? Your cable company is going to buy a couple thousand of these things from either Cisco or Motorola, and then you can decide if you want to watch SDV channels by renting said box from them.
I'd like it to be small, but if the tuning adaptor is the size of a cinder block I'm still going to rent one.

I wish it was something smaller like a dongle that would get lost in the jungle of wires. I guess on the plus side is its stackable unlike the PS3. Making it easy to find a place in my rack.
The thing I don't like is needing another power outlet. I've cleaned up all my wires buying or making wire to the correct length and it still looks like a rats nest behind my tv because off all the power wires.
