TiVo brings back $399 Lifetime Service plan
Hard to say if this is just another fling that will expire as soon as some TiVo exec feels that it should, but for whatever it's worth, interested users can now purchase a Lifetime Service plan for their TiVo. Those operating sans a TiVo HD DVR can actually still take advantage of the Blue Moon special, but for everyone else, you can snag the Lifetime package for $399 (or $299 if adding it to your second, third, fourth or twentieth TiVo box). Remember, however, that the "Lifetime" subscription only applies to whatever deck you currently have, and with all this talk of tru2way, we might suggest holding off and letting the dust settle before pulling the trigger.

I wish Directv would use TiVo again. The current DVR's are a joke.

From the details of that plan:
"This is a limited time offer available from November 8, 2007 until February 13, 2008. TiVo reserves the right to terminate this offer at anytime, for any reason."

They haven't updated the website yet. It's a done deal. (For now.)

I wish they would bring back innovation.

I wish they would bring sexy back. Those other boys don't know how to act.

Why pay $399 for a "lifetime" subscription when Tivo's life could be over in no time?

1999 called. They want their doubtful rhetoric back.
TiVo is doing just fine. It's facing a slow climb to profitability, but so did Amazon. Both addressed new markets, both were the best at it, and both took a long time to move from giant cash shredders to financially independent entities (TiVo isn't quite there yet, but probably will be in a couple of years).

I have a TiVo HD with lifetime service and a 500GB external drive for $700 with free shipping. Email me at domjr1976@rochester.rr.com if interested.
I love the unit, and it has a lot of cool features for sure, but my cable system is very heavy into SDV, so I miss out on a lot. I know that a 2way option is supposed to be getting put out soon, but I already have 3 DVRs from my employer / cable company.
Let me know if you are interested.

I currently own two Series 2 Tivos, and a Tivo HD...as a result of the Tivo HD, I'm cancelling service on all three. I'm on my fourth replacement unit (bad drives, video card failure, etc.) and now it's stuttering...it seems like they've really dropped the ball on their HD units, which is further aggravated by the Cablecard nonsense - - whenever the HD goes out, I lose cable TV until it's replaced (all but the first 100 channels).
They had a chance to crush the competition with great service and hardware, but I'm now learning to live with the less schnazzy, but so far FAR more reliable cable-provided unit - rotten UI and less features, but it seems to actually work reliably - which is really Job 1 for a recorder.
