Amazon Unbox content going HD on TiVo

We had a pretty good feeling this would go down eventually, but we certainly didn't see a confirmation (of sorts, anyway) coming this soon. Jim Denney, VP of product marketing at TiVo, has been quoted as saying that although the current version of Amazon Unbox can't process high-definition content, TiVo and Amazon will jointly announce HD capabilities "in the not too distant future." Granted, the content -- whenever it does actually arrive -- will only be accessible by "cable subscribers" with adequate bandwidth, but it's not like that's any sort of surprise. Sadly, details beyond what you've seen here were left out, but at least you can sleep soundly tonight knowing that high-def Unbox material is most certainly on the horizon.

Can anyone recommend some movie download sites? I have been searching the net and found several, but I have no idea which site if any are any good.

So instead of the 3 hour Amazon ->TiVo download time,what do we have to look out for, 6 hour downloads?

Ha ha.. I find it laughable when Blu-Ray zealots start making sarcastic remarks like this.

Face it numbnut, downloads are COMING.. within next 2 years, Blu-Ray is out and everything will be digitally downloaded. I've heard from even some huge brand representatives that Sony already has a specific date to drop Blu-Ray within next 2 years as they are already aware now it's not going anywhere.

It doesn't take 6 hours to download anything.. you need about an hour to download full HD movie on Xbox Live on a regular 5bmps connection. TIVO is just another natural step.

We already have MAJOR streaming networks online like Akamai and similar having their infrastructure switched to HD streaming. It's just a matter of time. By end of this year we will have a plethora of HD content available at our fingertips online through various systems be it Apple TV, Amazon Unbox, Xbox Live or something else.

It has been already said that based on industry sources the broadband speeds in the States alone will increase to match the ones in Japan and other places that are hitting 100mbps today.

Hulu has some movies on it's website.

If you're a Netflix subscriber, you can view some movies online

As far as Amazon Unbox and Tivo, it's a great service and I've used it, but it's a buried feature. You really have to dig around to find it.

finally! cannot wait for this. if i'm going to pay $4 to rent a movie, or $2 for a tv episode, it should at least be HD

Interesting if they can pull it off. Just like with everything else that's download based the pipes need to be big on BOTH sides.
