Yes. 6.1 setup here. unfortunately, because of my 2 year old, the Mrs insisted that I disconnect and put away the the 3 rear speakers. :-(

I have 5.1 surround with a receiver capable of TrueHD and DTS-MA-HD either via bitstream or LPCM. Audio is important to me as the picture only tells half the story.

Audio is even more important than video in immersing one in a movie or effects-heavy TV show. Watch Master and Commander with and without surround, and you'll know what I mean.
My 5.1 JBL speakers are decent, and I've got a nice Dolby TrueHD/DTS-HD capable receiver.

I agree that audio is extremely important, which is why I fought tooth and nail with my wife to be allowed to get a 5.1 setup. Had to get a HTiB, so the speakers really need to be upgraded, but at least the receiver is a pretty decent one.

I have a 6.1 system from a couple of years ago. Just upgraded to HDTV this year if that tells you anything. Increased picture quality is really something, but surround sound makes a bigger difference to the experience, IMHO.

I have a 27-inch 4:3 CRT TV and have gone Blu-ray solely for the hi-def audio.
Our audio setup trumps our TV. Who cares about the video! (well, we are going to get a projector...)

Just bought the Onkyo HT-SP908 from Crutchfield for $849.99 and shipping was free. Uses the Onkyo TX-SR605 as the receiver, SKS-HT750 as the set of 7 speakers and the sub, along with a DV-SP405 as the DVD player. Good setup for what I was looking for. Basically wanted something that is capable for being upgraded for the next couple of years if I need to.

I have the Onkyo HT-SR800 which I purchased about a year ago. I had no complaints with it until a couple months after I bought it when I realized that to actually get the 7.1 signal to it I have to use the analog inputs. Wouldn't really be an issue if I wasn't considering just getting a PS3 as my Blu-ray player. Audio not supported by HDMI was a pretty big letdown. That and my apartment isn't really big enough to have 2 speakers behind my couch, so I only have 5.1 setup right now. I should have taken the 500 I spent (got a good deal on it) and put it towards piecing my own setup together.

While I see there aren't too many Blu Ray movies with True HD sound, I see a lot of people buying True HD receivers.
I'm looking for a new receiver and after seeing the Onkyos in the store I'm not a big fan. They look cheap.
What does everybody think about the Sony STR-DG920 and ES line?
I need a lot of power for my NHT 5.1 system as well.
Also, will the PS 3 support True HD - DTS?
What about bitstream or LPCM? What the hell does this mean and what do I need to buy?

I have an older Sony from around 8 years ago and it's still going strong as Sony has always made quality stuff, in my humble opinion.
Having had a 5.1 set-up for just as long, and having since recently upgraded to a 52 inch LCD, I began looking for a new Sony receiver that would be able to output via HDMI with all the most current audio codecs. In my search I have found the STR-DG920 and am awaiting its release sometime late this month. 7.1 channel audio output, 4 HDMI audio ins, and DTS-HD MA make it a no-brainer for the price. I'm not familiar with Sony's ES line.
As for the PS3, Sony just released a firmware update making it compatible with Dolby True HD and DTS-HD Master Audio. It also supports bitstream and (currently) 2 ch. LCPM audio. Basically the bitstream audio is a compressed source made just small enough (2.5 MB per sec.?) so that optical cable and such can handle it. LCPM is a lossless, uncompressed audio source that is, according to what I've heard, the most true and pure version of what was mastered in the studio. Of course some also argue that with the new DTS-HD MA and Dolby True HD codecs there is little difference between a bitstreamed source and LCPM. Apples to oranges, and I think it all comes down to personal preference.

Just got a simple 5.1 HTIB SLS system and a 4:3 CRT tv. But I'm in college and allowed. Bought a HD-DVD drive for my 360 with the free movies and stuff. This summer upgrades include DIY 12'' subwoofer and 40''+ LCD tv, 1080p, PS3 and maybe a better receiver. A hand-me-down Onkyo Integra from my parents is the top contender. Really want a new Onkyo 606 though.

Old Denon AVR-1603 as receiver, I will have to upgrade soon to a HDMI-capable one for the PS3. Speakers are from a good Onkyo HTiB set, and sub is a Wharfedale. I'll upgrade soon to Wharfedale Diamond 8 speakers and Reel audio subwoofer. In fact, the subwoofer will come before everything else as the Wharfedale PC-8 is a bit limited for my home theater.
I'm more of a video guy, but for the time being my 720p Panasonic AE500 is doing fine. Will upgrade to a AE2000 when I have my MBA.

Surround sound audio is SO important for immersion into a movie.
I'm watching movies on my mac mini hooked up to Dell 24" LCD. Does an amazing job upconverting DVDs.
For sound i have axiom audio m3 fronts and axiom audio QS4 rears. I don't have a center or a woofer yet, cause i have a pretty small space. So officially I am a 4 channel system. Using a $150 Sony DD5.1/DTS receiver. Once they release a mac mini that has blu-ray support i'll upgrade the mini and the receiver.
Axiom has amazing speakers for really good value. You can get an impressive 5.1 speaker system for $1000.

Unfortunately, I live in a small condo with thin walls, so I use only my HDTV's 31-watt built-in speakers. I had a 5.1 surround sound system purchased in 2003 until about a year ago.

I've had the crappy $500 HTIB with $250 HK amp before and just decided screw it. I've got limited space and decided getting full range, full size 3 ways with a great two channel amp is just so much better. Music on the HTIB is like listening to those giveaway ipod ear phones and when I'm watching the diving bell do I really need 7.1???

Got a nice 5.1 setup here. Marantz SR-5600 feeding a Marantz MA-9000 170Wx5 amplifier into Paradigm Studio 40 V3 bookshelfs (Fronts), Infinity Beta C360 center, Acoustic Research PS2262 towers (rear) and Infinity CSW-10 sub (which rocks hard).
Clearly a sonically mismatched system, but at 500 bucks for a pair of Paradigms retailing for 1200, I couldn't pass up the deal. Soon the matching Paradigm surrounds and center will come.
The only thing that kills it for me is the lack of HDMI input, and hence TrueHD/DTS-MA out of a PS3 into my receiver. I just can't bring myself to spend a grand on a new receiver that adds those two audio supports, but nothing else sound wise.

While the Onkyo might be decent, I'm looking for a little higher end setup, such as Anthem or Integra (yes it's an Onkyo, but a very expensive one).
My Marantz works great for 5.1 DTS audio, but I'm itching to hear the lossless track from the PS3.

Rockin' with an Onkyo TX-SR674 Reciever, Four Klipsch RF-82 Towers with dual 8-inch drivers in each tower (two towers in the front L&R positions, and two for surrounds) and a RC-62 Center Channel Speaker. Audio trumps video for those who are into the whole home-theater experience. Video trumps audio for the average Best Buy consumer who wants something that will impress friends first and look nice. For those in the know--audio is the most important aspect of Home Theater.

I've an entry-level HK 5.1 reciever and an Onkyo multi-format player for SACD and DVD-Audio mostly. B&O Redline's on the wall (front and center) and in-walls for the rear. There's an Olivia lcd connected for watching Rave on Dish Network in 5.1. I think I've played a total of 5 movies ever...mostly things like Peter Gabriel "Growing Up" and the like. Has alway been audio-based for me!

As a cable technician, I meet lots of meatheads who think they have surround systems. But alas, they use stereo analog inputs and think they have it working. the worst is when they have shitty a shitty Bose 3-2-1 rig. I just cringe inside and change the subject, most importantly, Ive learned not to try to educate the person, it opens a can of worms.
its not my job to fix their surround sound. theres an important lesson here its called RTFM (read the fucking manual). That being said, I currently have 2 surround sound systems. one in my bedroom and one in the living room. neither one are HTIB.

To me its all about the sound, Video comes second,all tho it does make a HUGE difference. My setup is as fallows:

Cerwin Vega VS 10" floor standing fronts
Cerwin Vega 4x6 center channel

Polk Audio 200 watt powered 10" Sub and
Rocket Fish universal wireless speaker kit (BTW I highly recommend this to get rid of all those pesky wires you have to run all over the house, and it doesn't affect the sound of the setup!}

I've had a 5.1 system since the laserdisc days (DTS and Dolby Digital started back then).
I've recently upgraded my processor/amp separates to an Onkyo TX-905 receiver with 7.1 outputs, but not yet purchased the two extra speakers to take advantage of it.

Got a 5.0 downstairs based on some RCA bipoles for the roommates to enjoy, and a 5.1 rig back home for the parents with a Har Kar receiver driving three-way custom speaker cabs, plus a custom sub with two 18" woofers in push-pull configuration. Great for big group movie watching.
My personal rig is upstairs, for sound editing, but I watch a movie or two sometimes. PC-driven via M-Audio Delta 1010 plus corrective EQ on all channels, going to five Alesis ProLinear 720 studio monitors, two modded 12" Sony subs, and some room treatments. Flat response (+/- 2 dB) 30 Hz-20 kHz when measured at listening position. You haven't heard Master & Commander or The Fifth Element 'til you've heard it on a system like that!
