Sony releases v3.90 firmware for BDP-S300 Blu-ray player
Heads-up, BDP-S300 owners -- Sony has just unleashed a new firmware update for your machine. Posted today, the v3.90 update will bring you, well, we're not exactly sure what. According to users at AVSForum, the general consensus is that TrueHD support just has to be in there, but Sony's servers are so glacially slow that no one has been able to confirm or deny just yet. Once your download manages to complete (hey, it takes awhile when it's being uploaded from what appears to be a 14.4k modem connection), feel free to discuss any notable changes in comments below.

The BDP-S300 still costs $399.99? Man the price needs to come down on these bluray players...

With the S350 due soon and the S550 after that, the price will come down soon enough.

I have to agree with Paul about the price. I own one of these and $399 is about $75 less than I paid a long time ago, but the newer models will be far more up to date with the profiles and the audio formats and should sell for roughly the same price. My S300 isn't even HDMI 1.3. It's a quality player and it has 5.1 analog outputs which is great for my poor old receiver, but these should sell for $299 at the most. Don't spend your stimulus package on it.
Look for mine on Ebay when the Oppo Blu-Ray player comes out.

Mine works well for me. Oh, and contrary to what I posted in the comments for review for this, it's NOT Bonus View capable. I didn't realize that some movies have a second copy of the movie on the disc with the PiP content affixed.
I'll be moving mine into the bedroom when an affordable (less than $300) profile 2.0 player comes around.

Panasonic also had a firmware update today for the DMP BD30 BLU-RAY player

Works for me :)

Great little player for the price I payed for it... I got the S301 for around $250 refurbished. I wouldn't pay more than $300 though.

It's a pity this player doesn't decode the TrueHD and DTS HD Master Audio like its cousin the PS3 can. I couldn't wait for the s350 and s550, so i bought the PS3 instead. Would be nice if the TrueHD is in this firmware.

So what's the latest on this firmware?
