Matsushita stumbles, LG becomes top plasma supplier once again
Believe it or not, it was around this day two full years ago that LG managed to climb atop Matsushita, Hitachi and the rest of the gang to claim the label of top plasma maker in the world. Shortly thereafter, Matsushita roared to number one and has remained there ever since -- until now. The aforesaid firm slipped from #1 to #3 in Q1 2008, as LG's share surged 34.8-percent on 97-percent year-over-year growth. Samsung SDI took advantage of Matsushita's folly and claimed the silver for the first time, while Hitachi, Pioneer and Orion closed out the bottom in that order. We've got a good feeling about PDP this year, but we aren't about to call it a comeback.

The reason they are number one in the world is because the rest of the world can afford LG because they are not high priced or overpriced. In the U.S., very few people buy LG and would rather buy Samsung (the most patents in the last few years and very innovative), Panasonic and Sony. Especially in Eastern Europe, all they push is LG and some off brands that would never sell in U.S. I just want to know, how many Americans prefer LG over Samsung, Panasonic or Sony. I am not saying that LG is a bad brand, they just have not set any benchmarks when it comes to brightness, contrast, color, 120hz or whatever. Correct me if I'm wrong.

The Orion numbers speak to the impressive penetration rates of HDTVs this past year. If any company experiences a 59% year-over-year increase and remains in the same relative market share position, how fast do you think that industry is growing? Mind-boggling!

Actually LG has earned its premium pricing, albeit a smaller premium. They're kind of like GE; They don't make a lot of the things you guy, they make the things you buy better. That's all one has to do in today's market to succeed.

Let's analyze. Why is it so hard for people to understand.
AFFORDABLE and good quality = always #1
Vizio, LG push the market. Why? Cheap prices and great quality. That's what people want.
Same with anything really. It's really a no-brainer. When you want to rip people off you drop in ratings. Simple as that.
I'm not saying that Panasonic is bad or anything (I have 2 of their plasmas), but you go overpriced, no matter how good your quality is your will not appeal to masses. Simple.
