When Paramount makes a decision it really gets behind it, and just as quickly as Paramount titles
disappeared from store shelves back in August, they'll all re-appear in the next few weeks. With the initial
Paramount Blu-ray re-commitment just a few weeks ago, we learned that 8 of the 32 previously releases titles would be available on May 20th, and now the studio has confirmed that the entire Blu-ray back catalog will be available by the end of May. The titles will be true reissues and identical to the original release -- so if you didn't like the first one, you won't like these either. We're sure plenty of recent Blu-ray adopters are happy to get their hands on titles like
Mission Impossible trilogy and
The Italian Job, but we'd be more excited to see some of the more recent Paramount releases go Blu, like say,
Transformers. But hey, at least we can finally get rid of that annoying asterisks on
our weekly releases post.

WHERE IS TRANSFORMERS????????????
Peter @ May 7th 2008 7:44PM
In my home theater on HD DVD :)
WebDev511 @ May 7th 2008 8:12PM
They're still trying to figure out how to port all the HDi content to BD-J. Apparently it's not straight forward, but I don't know why they would bother as everyone knows that special features don't matter.
Peter @ May 7th 2008 8:21PM
Why do I get low ranked? I was just stating a fact. I didn't even insult BD.
John B @ May 7th 2008 9:02PM
@Peter:
There are still a lot of sore winners still around, apparently.
Spiza @ May 7th 2008 9:09PM
You could just download, and then buy it when its available.
Mr Bobby @ May 7th 2008 9:14PM
I have it playing off my HD-DVD disc. And if you're handy with the pc, play the "mkv" file on other video-capable players.
Maybe this announcement will get the guys at my local GameStop to remove the ridiculous sticker marked $34 for the MI-3 on Blu-ray. The have the open case with a "New" sticker. How is that new when it's already opened? This is not a car. A video, a game, just like a cd, if it's not sealed, the store should not pass it as new.
Mark @ May 8th 2008 4:37AM
Michael Bay has been so vocal about Transformers looking better on Blu that I expect there is enormous pressure to make sure the disk really does look better on Blu. It certainly has the space to look and sound better. Wasn't the HD DVD also accompanied by an internet enabled disk?
I guess BD will have to be BD-Live too or make up for it in other ways. It it is BD-Live enabled, it may need a lot of infrastructure to be put in place especially if its Paramounts first online enabled disk.
The other titles are already done and dusted so I assume they just took the master over to their local replicator and just pumped out a bunch more of them.
Truth Teller @ May 8th 2008 6:03AM
Michael Bay isn't sitting at home reencoding Transformers.
In fact the most likely outcome is a straight 'port' of the HD DVD release (and all the Blu-ray fols can pretend that a 'reference' standard audio track would sound much better on their creative 5.1 set-ups if it was that wasteful & bloated uncompressed idiocy).
It's going to be funny hearing how the supposedly superior Blu-ray ends up (just like last time when Paramount encoded to suit each format) looking & sounding no different to the HD DVD release.
I've been enjoying many of the Paramount releases for months now.
Transformers?
Well tbh it was a really cr@p film, some nice visual effects & some nice audio effects too but, be serious, it was about as instantly forgettable, childish & superficial as they come.
Typical Hollywood fodder for the single adolescent male 'PS3 demographic'.
All effects and no substance (typical Bay sh!te, in fact).
It doesn't age any better either, it'll not getting voted as an all-time classic anywhere that's for sure.
Achilles @ May 8th 2008 9:27AM
I thought Blu-Ray was about making the visual effects pop and the sounds top notch? I didn't think Blu-Ray was going to make the plot of a movie any better.
The movie is about the effects. I don't think they were trying to win an Oscar.
Classic? Who cares. It's simple entertainment. It's visual and audio candy for your home systems.
Whether or not it sounds or looks any different than HD-DVD is a moot point. They are both 1080p. The HD-DVD version looked and sounded awesome. However, Toshiba pulled out and the war is over. All I'm asking for is that it's released on BR.
John B @ May 10th 2008 1:34PM
The fact that I got a low rank for pointing it out proves my point.
lakersin2025 @ May 7th 2008 8:25PM
Get ready for the Nfinity comment.
WebDev511 @ May 7th 2008 8:34PM
I was thinking the same thing.
Where's the Jack Ryan Collection?
I NEED Hunt For Red October in 1080p!
Achilles @ May 7th 2008 9:12PM
The Hunt for Red October!!!!! That's what I'm talking about!!!
Mr Bobby @ May 7th 2008 9:17PM
"The Jack Ryan Collection" was a complete fiasco. They mislabeled the box. Then recalled it, just to release it a few months later with text corrections instead of adding the features advertised on the box.
mugatu @ May 8th 2008 12:39AM
Where is Nfinity? Where is TruthTeller? Are they out buying their Blu-Ray players? Or are they at home watching Transformers for the 200th time?
Mr. E @ May 8th 2008 10:37AM
Would you guys PLEASE stop baiting the trolls?
severian00 @ May 7th 2008 9:34PM
We have most of the titles also listed as coming out on may 20th including Shooter, Mission Impossibles (plus the boxed set), and Tomb Raider. Too many to list. So it looks like almost all will be available on the 20th.
lucyfan62 @ May 7th 2008 11:49PM
That's weird because I've seen the previous Paramount catalog titles on the shelves at Best Buy and FYE since Paramount made the official switch back to Blu-ray. Did these stores just keep the titles in stock (doubtful) or did Paramount quietly start sending them back out to the stores when the switch was official?
MI @ May 8th 2008 1:38AM
Still eagerly awaiting the stuff that was announced, but never released. some of it must mastered and even boxed... Gimme Jack Ryan, and those supplements.
Dave @ May 8th 2008 2:21AM
Cool! :)
Truth Teller @ May 8th 2008 6:10AM
I've been enjoying many of those Paramount titles for months now and there are still a few I'll pick up for £5/$10 or less.
Transformers?
Sh!te if you ask me.
Glitzy empty pap for the sort of people who find shiney beads interesting.
Yeah, I bought it (cheap) but be honest, you'd really be taking the pi$$ if you would seriously try & call it a satisfyingly engaging cinematic experience.
MI @ May 8th 2008 8:23AM
'Sh!te if you ask me.'
and you know we were just about to...

Regardless of the merits (or not) of Transformers, it's a popular title and will come out on Blu-ray in the near future. Hopefully they'll include a lossless audio track, since they'll now certainly have the room for it.
I'm just glad the Blu-ray releases posts will be rid of that stupid asterisk once and for all.
Welcome back Paramount, you're forgiven. Now get to business and start cranking out the Blu-ray titles. My personal most wanted BD release from Paramount is the Godfather trilogy. I hope that will be out by the end of the year.
ewelch @ May 8th 2008 11:52AM
Great. Now, just before their defection to HD-DVD, they announced Star Trek to come out first in HD-DVD then Blu-ray. Is there any word on a release of Star Trek OS?
why not the LS2LS7? @ May 8th 2008 12:36PM
Most importantly, Trading Places is back. Funniest movie ever made.
Sean @ May 8th 2008 1:47PM
Not getting any titles from them unless it has Lossless audio.
Jason @ May 8th 2008 5:29PM
"Not getting any titles from them unless it has Lossless audio."
Amen to that.
I was all happy after reading this thinking "great, now I can buy Shooter for a decent price". But my dreams where shattered when I noticed that none of the original Paramount titles have anything better than DD or DTS.
Fredster @ May 8th 2008 6:01PM
WHAT? You mean that we won't be seeing your utmost annyoing * (Asterisk) under every BD weekly releases anymore??!! I'm shocked Ben!;-)
Just teasing you man, couldn't resist!:-)
