Sony's towering
NHS-130C broke cover a few months back, but now this piece is getting set to ship to those able to cough up the $40,000 to $85,000 it typically costs to have one installed (with varying components already loaded in). Just to give you an idea of what it's packing, we're told to expect a DA3300ES receiver, CAV-CVS12ES Component via CAT5 Video Switch,
BDP-S300 Blu-ray player, DVP-CX777ES 400 DVD changer, CAV-M1000ES A/V Switchers and a
Control4 HC500 controller with 160GB of space for a skimpy audio library. In essence, having this in your crib will enable you to pipe audio / video to 12 separate zones, with the main rooms having outputs for HDMI, IR out and 7.1-channel sound. You'll be able to control it via ZigBee and the on-screen HD menu and integrate it with existing Control4 setups; there's even a trio of empty racks with component / HDMI hookups (Xbox 360 / PS3, anyone?). Chances are fairly high you'll spot one of these in 2009's
Home of the Year, but 'til then, check out some sneak peeks in the gallery below.

It's not component via Ethernet, it's component via balanced line UTP, to clarify.
Not everything on a Cat 5 cable is Ethernet.

would it be too hard not take good pictures most of them are worthless (blurry). how can you take a blurry shot from something not moving! :-)

For $40,000 to $85,000 they couldn't spring for a 1TB hard drive?
Matthew Brundage @ May 2nd 2008 4:14PM
Wow, what a fine looking rack!

you're right sir, but some baluns have active DACs and convert to PCM, meaning the signal is actually not balanced. just a thought.
as far as that SONY/CONTROL4 setup, i would much rather spend the same money on a middle atlantic rack, crestron control system, and qsonix music server. the av distribution is easy enough using muxlab or gefen baluns.

40k seems absurdly expensive for 12 zone streaming when you could just buy 12 PCs, or indeed 12 PS3s and do the same for a fraction of the price.

omg rofl, I loved that...
why not the LS2LS7? @ May 3rd 2008 1:59AM
I don't want to control it via ZigBee. I'd rather control it via Bluetooth.

WOW I am in the wrong business!! I need to start building overpriced last decdes tech to dumbass rich people with too much money!!! 400 DVD changer? Who the hell would use that? How about a 1TB hard drive instead? And a media center pc.

I highly doubt we will see this in any Home of the Year's. Having spent several years in the custom installation industry, this is a very entry-level setup. It's a great idea to have a semi-pre-built system, but in reality, most jobs require a lot more than a pre-assembled rack. Also, at the price range they're targeting, there are much more respected, and generally more capable systems.
