Take a standard apartment living room that is < 15' wall to wall and its easy to end up in a situation where you sit less than 7' from your display. Small displays are meant for small rooms. Nice remark Gallo.

How much does it cost compared to the Panasonic in the article?? THREE TIMES the COST. I doubt if the PQ & technology is 2x better, even considering the larger size.

My folks have a Panasonic plasma, fabulous picture all the time! My two Kuro's have even better blacks, their top PQ is common knowledge. I sold my initial LCD from Sony in January, the uneven PQ, motion lag and bad view angels become annoying after the initial WOW factor of a new HD LCD. Compared to my parents plasma, I wasn't happy and its why I eventually went with the Kuro's.

So many LCD owners have buyers remorse from continually reading that the expert reviewers STILL rank plasma #1 over the best LCD's, and often for less money. My 50" Kuro 5080 was $1000 less than Gallo's XBR5 52".

Give Sony credit for marketing though..... LCD outsells plasma by 5,6,7 to 1 ?? Pity the naive buyers.

more > http://www.hometheatermag.com/rearprojectiontvs/208hdface/index.html

Tony

Comments on Panasonic's 42-inch TH-42PX80U VIERA plasma reviewed

My parents just bought this TV for under $1,000. I have always bought LCD's but we saw a new 1080p plasma set up in the store and it looked 10 times better than any other TV in the store including th Sony XBR's. I have heard some bad things about plasmas such as the gas running out after a few years and the colors look washy but I think those days are over. As a video editor, I constantly notice how the LCD's always look overly pixelated, and extremely grainy. Even worse, sports look terrible. I was hesitant to say yes to her buying the plasma, but I said if it looked bad we would take it back in a week and get an LCD. Upon hooking it up, we just hooked up a regular DVD player and analog tv - her Dish Network is coming out next week to hook up the HDTV signal in her room - but I have to say the picture looked amazing for just a basic signal and even older 80's dvd's looked great! - No weird pixels jumping around on the screen - It looked like a large NTSC picture but much sharper and natural. I'm a firm believer in the fact that when there is a product, there really isn't an opinionated conclusion to which is better, but that there is always a clear winner. There is no doubt in my mind that Plasma is superior to LCD hands down.

Video Master

Comments on Panasonic's 42-inch TH-42PX80U VIERA plasma reviewed

gallo you're an uneducated person and i wouldn't trade even my 60PX75u panasonic for your xbr lcd lol.

a few quotes from http://www.hometheatermag.com/rearprojectiontvs/208hdface/index8.html

"What Do You Think?
Although LCD has improved substantially the dispersion bugaboo still plagues that technology"

"The price/ performance equation definitely favors plasma over LCD.—David Birch-Jones"

"But there was no doubt about it—plasma is king"

gus
