West Michigan becomes latest region to get AT&T's U-verse
Not quite three months after AT&T took U-verse to the Motor City comes word that more of Michigan can now tap the aforementioned company for phone, internet and fiber-based TV service. As of now, 40 local communities in West Michigan -- including Battle Creek, Grand Rapids, Holland and Kalamazoo -- can call up the carrier in order to get U-verse in their home. The provider also notes that those who are just out of reach right now should keep checking in, as it plans to make the service available "to more homes throughout the area on an ongoing basis."

As an existing user, I enjoy u-verse, but for new customers it's starting to loose some of it's aggressive pricing appeal. Last month at&t took away the $10/mo bundle discount for ordering u-verse TV and internet services together. This month they began charging for each additional set-top box @ $5/mo (beyond the one included DVR box). Before you could have 3 for free and $5 for the 4th or more. And they stopped the signup promo for a free first year of HD service.

In Livonia, Michigan they are currently stringing lines across the city. I see them all over the place here. If you drive by the Red Robin Restaurant there are about 20-25 trucks that park there at night. I guess they don't have an office yet.
We've had Bright House/Time Warner only for the longest time.

I'm getting ready to drop U-Verse here.
Worked great when they first put it in but now its a running joke with my wife to see how many times the STB or DVR will freeze while watching a normal show.
I am watching Leno right now (SD not HD) and I have had it lock up 3 times.
When it locks up the screen just freezes and usually you can grab the remote and go Channel Up and then Channel Down and it comes back to life. It almost seems like for some reason they are dropping me from the multicast stream and by changing the channel up and down I am essentially re-subscribing to that multicast stream.
The DVR is even worse because when your watching something that was already recorded, you dont have the option of channel up/down. I usually have to hit fast forward for a sec and then play and somehow it jumps over the bad part and goes back to the show, but with anywhere from 5-60 seconds of lost show.
I thought maybe the DVR was overheating because I have it in a little cubby, but the 2 STBs in my house do the same thing and they are both wide open with plenty of airflow. I event went so far as to install a 120mm Computer Fan in my DVR pointing down at the main chip (back left corner when viewing from from) but apparently its not the real problem.
If I could get JUST my U-Verse Internet for like $35-$45 (6 down / 1 up) and drop their TV Service, I would totally switch to DirecTV or maybe even back to TimeWarner
