I haven't seen cloverfield, but froom footage I saw, it looks like alot of it was on handheld camera... Would this benefit from blu-ray (other than audio...) Were those even HD cams?

Yep, HD cams, but shot in a handheld style. It would definitely benefit from a Blu-ray presentation. I'll pass on the DVD and save my money for the eventual BD release. I'm especially looking forward to seeing the many extras that will flesh out the Cloverfield experience.
