Verizon denied temporary block on TWC's anti-FiOS ads
Just an update on the Time Warner Cable/Verizon FiOS legal spat, Multichannel News is reporting a federal judge denied Verizon's request for a temporary restraining order to get the ads its deemed misleading off the air immediately. We can see why they'd think that, with the ads seeming to imply FiOS requires a dish (it doesn't) and that Time Warner uses fiber too (not really the same), but Judge Lewis Kaplan didn't feel it necessary to block them before a hearing on Verizon's preliminary injunction motion April 21. Check out the ads on our previous post and see how accurate they appear to you. [Disclosure: Engadget is part of the Time Warner family]

I agree that these ads are annoying and prey on the less informed consumer by appearing to imply that FIOS requires a dish and that Verizon and TW's fiber usage is the same but in the commercial the actor playing the home owner says specifically "Just to get TV from you now, don't I need a satellite dish?".
"NOW" being the important word in the ad, I think, and why Verizon's suit holds little to no ground (again, my opinion). I say this because I live within metro Columbus, OH (a pretty decent area for telecommunications competition) and according to Verizon's website as of this afternoon FIOS service is still not available at my address which means the ONLY television service I could possibly get from Verizon is their Direct TV service which, as the ad says, does require a dish.
Just my $0.02 on the engadget interwebs, for what it's worth.

This ad is not being used in your market, it is being used in the markets were Verizon Fios goes head to head with TWC. So, it is a misleading ad ad on TWC's part.
I only see this ad whenever I'm watching Fox NY, I'm in DC.

haha, Verizon is complaining about misleading ads. That's funny.

Talk about the pot calling the kettle black. Its Verizon who should be sued for their incessant fios commercials. As a matter of fact, Ive called cablevision asking them to pull all fios commercials off the air. This is the same big bad pots company that wanted to have voip rates increased and one of the companies being sued for wiretapping us. Their fios commercials are misleading because in no way, shape or form is fios internet better than cable. I get 30mbps cable and verizon cant match that. Even if they could, I have serious ethical and privacy issues with them. Anyone interested in democracy should NEVER choose Verizon.

If all misleading ads were blocked, there wouldn't be any ads to see.
Please, block all misleading ads!
