The PS3 has had pretty robust crypto & DRM since the beginning to limit plays, duration of content so the pieces are already there in the client side. All that is missing is the actual delivery platform.

Maybe they intend to do a deal with Amazon or someone for their service. To me that would make more sense in some ways since it immediately gets them in the game and relieves Sony of the pressure of the contractual hell, QoS etc. that must come with movie downloads.

DrXym

Comments on Sony VP promises in-game XMB, NA video download service, PlayStation Cards in '08

All the PS3 needs now is some games and I might buy one!

HD4ME

Comments on Sony VP promises in-game XMB, NA video download service, PlayStation Cards in '08

Haha! Lots of good releases this year. Gotta love the free online community. That's mostly what turned me off the 360. It's a big hurdle that has to be crossed seemlessly. As I remember it, because I don't play online with my PS3, you have to literally get out of a game, like COD4, just to see if a friend is looking to play. It's not as painful on LIVE and that's a shame. I mean give me some anytime message check and chat features. Why not beat Microsoft in that regard by allowing unlimited private chat to boot. Anyhow it's a big deal with me, that and how developers treat PS3 users.

Could be Sony and or the PS3's PS network structure is horrible or they don't give as much attention because the money is currently over at 360 land. But seriously, I play my 360 more because things work a bit better when they shouldn't really. MGS4 is coming and I want to enjoy it without the hassle of trying to hook up with pals.

Johnny Neat
