I'm not a fan of BlockBuster either, but Circuit City will get whatever they deserve. Just like CompUSA, the public has spoken.

Of course, I'm gonna miss wandering the store aimlessly, from register to register, hopelessly looking for an employee to ring up my purchases......

Frank Furter

Comments on Blockbuster offers to buy, um, Circuit City: digital downloads be damned!

Where BLockbuster found the money to buy a retail company like CC. Seriously blockbuster has 950 millions in debt. I used to work for that company and they are almost dead. I think Blockbuster know that time is running out for them So they want to stay in the brick and mortal business, but not in the rental area. CC offer good deals anytime you use your CC credit card. Now if CC wants to get sold, then Bestbuy will be the big dog that will buy them since they got the cash unlike blockbuster.

carlos

Comments on Blockbuster offers to buy, um, Circuit City: digital downloads be damned!

blockbuster's interest in Circuit City has Zero to do with Circuit City's sales of optical media. Big Box stores like Circuit City and Best Buy use Optical media (CDs & DVDs) as loss-leaders, meaning they sell them near or at wholesale prices to lure customers in with the hope customers will purchase other items with more built-in profit. Circuit City is the only real threat to Best Buy (Outside of Walmart) on a national scale. I'm surprised someone hasn't tried to buy out CC earlier.

kcjones

Comments on Blockbuster offers to buy, um, Circuit City: digital downloads be damned!

I work at cc and i had heard maybe 2 months or so ago that there were rumors that Best Buy and Circuit City would cease to carry cd's and dvd's other than new releases. I don't know how true those rumors were but I can see it now......how Verizon is embedded in cc I could see a blockbuster counter and rental section in-store....and cc removing the aisles of mixed and out of order dvd's and cd's......kc i do believe there have been some proposals before i just think cc sat on their ass and did nothing with it..........besides that WalMart as far as i know only sells cd's that are censored or "clean"........and frank just because you go into one and have a bad experience because of your impatience it doesn't mean they are all bad.

I do believe that if blockbuster did buy out Circuit City it would be a good thing, I think CC needs change especially seeing their stocks plummet over two years....a steady downhill trend with an eventual bankruptcy unless someone saves them...

Jake
