WHOAAAA!!! That is ridiculous!!! They want to charge you the same price as you spending your money to drive to Blockbuster and grab an environmentally unfriendly physical copy; plus you only get to hold their movie for 24 hours! And they wonder why people pirate movies?!

I love my Apple TV, but why should I spend $5 to rent an HD film, when I can get 8-10 BD rentals from Blockbuster Online for $14 per month?

Yeah I was surprised to see that announcement on my DVR list...they're blaming the studios which I don't doubt given the limitations on AppleTV & elsewhere. All it does is end my PPV purchases (1 every 3 mo's or so) -- I'm perfectly happy with my Netflix anyway.

Are the studios psychotic? Do they know how hard it is for parents of a young child to be able to get an entire movie watched in one sitting? Or anyone with a remotely busy schedule?
What exactly do they get from this ridiculous and now ubiquitous 24 hour limitation? What possible benefit are they deriving that they could not with a more reasonable 48 or even 30 hour limit?

I rent almost all new movies from Redbox and have yet to pay them a single dollar. I threw away my blockbuster and Hollywood video cards. Redbox rocks.

In the last fifteen years, we've not gotten through an entire film three times in one sitting: the original Solaris (on VHS in 1996, IIRC); the first LOTR film (2003), and Yes Men (2007). We've even been able to watch Das Boot (all 3 1/2 hours) in a single sitting.
And are we busy? We've got a very active nine year old son and we both work 50-60 hour weeks.
Frankly I don't see what the big deal is over a 24 hour limit.

I don't doubt that the studios are to blame for this new "rule"...but where's the announcement of similar limitations on Dish Network's DVRs? Or Comcast's? Or Verizon's? etc. etc. etc.

I don't see this as a big deal. The only time I've ever bought a PPV from DTV was when I wanted to watch it at that minute and it was more convenient than driving to Family Video. If I'm going to watch something at some point over a day or two, it's cheaper to just go rent the disc. A lot cheaper.

I wonder if this is going to include PPV's like boxing and wrestling? Those shouldn't be governed by movie studios I would think.

Wrestling PPVs already do this. When I ordered Wrestlemania last week (3/30), and it expired on (4/1). Irritating, to say the least, as Wrestlemania cost over $60 for the HD broadcast!

So much for recording something mid week to watch Friday/Saturday night. Sometimes the movies aren't playing on the weekends by the time I decide I have time to watch them. DTV won't be getting my PPV $$$ anymore. Good thing I still have my BlockBuster card.

Out of the 24 hours we're now limited to buy and watch a PPV movie, subtract from that an average 8 hr work day, 7-8 hours of sleep time, and that leaves 8 hrs of free time for personal errands, tasks, kids soccer games, preparing dinner for the family, etc...and the luxury of leisurely watching a 1 to 2 1/2 hr movie. Yeah, right.
I've only had Directv for 3 months. Sure wish I had stayed with Dish Network!

I was one of the original 5000 customers back in 1994. Today I disconnected Directv. I suggest that everyone cancel their service and go back to either cable or Dish (like they are any better). I just purchased a Tivo HD box. I also put up an outside antenna ( this new Digital OTA stuff is great ) The best part about it, it is free. The only thing these people understand is money. As soon as they start losing lot's of it they will start listening. The only one to blame is ourselves, we are letting them do all this stuff.
