Blu-ray releases on April 8th, 2008
At first glance this week looks pretty decent, but when you take a second look you'll notice the biggest release of the week is MIA. We'd hoped that Paramount would be ready to release Blu-ray titles in time for There Will be Blood, we now know we'll have to go without -- guess Paramount will just have to wait to get our money. Sony's leading the way this week with four releases though, two of which include BD Live content as well as TrueHD sound. Something also interesting to note is that the super hot, I Am Legend hits HD DVD this week, so we'll be interested to see how well it sells on next week's VideoScan numbers now that some retailers have eliminated its HD DVD shelf space. Blu-ray
- The 6th Day (Sony)
- The Adventures of Baron Munchausen (Sony)
- Sharkwater (Warner)
- Space Ace (Digital Leisure)
- Walk Hard: The Dewey Cox Story (Sony)
- The Water Horse: Legend of the Deep (Sony)
- Yukikaze (Bandai Visual)

Ben, when will you add back the 32 titles from Paramount. Weren't these titles available on Amazon again after the HD-DVD announcement?
Ben @ Apr 7th 2008 3:23PM
They were never officially added back, just some that mysteriously showed up at Amazon.

Now that it's BR only for the weekly releases, would you mind splitting them into 'new releases' and something like 'new to BR' ?
Ben @ Apr 7th 2008 3:32PM
That's a great idea, but what we're really talking about is which are day and date with DVD and which are not. I'l try to do that next week.

In for I Am Legend on HD-DVD. Netflix for There Will Be Blood. Avoiding Walk Hard (which was always the plan...)

I buy or Netflix HD movies only. Otherwise I'll find other "ways" to get them.

Wow! A whopping 496 titles in 2 years! It doesn't really seem like the pace picked up any since the demise of HD-DVD.
What gives?

"Something also interesting to note is that the super hot, I Am Legend hits HD DVD this week"
if people were smart they'd stay away from this hot garbage.

Nice. We get to see actor Ray D. Tutta at his finest in Baron Munchausen.
Robin Williams is credited with this fake name for this movie XD

damm right. altough some of the photography and sound editing was nice, this movie seriously dissapointed and sold on the fact of the popularity of its leading actor.

Totally agree about There Will Be Blood. I'd love to have it in my collection alongside my Blu-ray of No Country For Old Men. It's one of the best movies of 2007, but I'll just wait rather than buying or renting the DVD. Paramount can get my money for that and Cloverfield when they eventually release them in the proper format.
Kudos to Sony for releasing a "small" catalog title like Baron Munchausen. I have fond memories of seeing that a couple of times in the theater. I'm really looking forward to the BD version.

Now there's a list of movies I'm ready to shell out $30-35 a piece on.
Will @ Apr 7th 2008 11:32PM
if anybody is paying $30-35 they're stupid, you can find them much cheaper online and sometimes even at places like walmart

anyone know if it's possible to add HD DVDs ability to a newer Netflix account? apparently I'm too new to be able to see and add titles (i've had to join blockbuster as well... ugh). i called Netflix' customer service # and they said that they can't add more people to the roles since they won't be replacing existing stock.
