Sony pushing Blu-ray aspects of PlayStation 3 starter packs
Assembling bundles for consoles isn't something incredibly new to Sony, but on its latest selection of six PlayStation 3 starter packs, half of 'em are aimed squarely at the home theater crowd. The Fantasy, Adventure and Thriller packages all ditch extra controllers or AAA game releases to include a different Blu-ray movie, the PS3 remote and a paltry $10 savings. Given the sudden surge in attractiveness, we wouldn't be surprised one iota to see Sony continue to market the movie-playing aspects as Blu-ray awareness picks up.

Why shouldn't they ?? i have one its the only reason to own one its a great Bluray/DVD player.. I use my 360 for actual games

This is actually a terrible deal altogether. Sony thinks that they're giving away the console by "saving you" $10. You can get either one of those movies for under $20 quite easily. "I Am Legend" is $18 from Amazon. "Enchanted" has a $10 off coupon floating around on the Internets. Target was recently giving $40 gift cards with the purchase of the console. The remote control can be found for under $20. As a matter of fact Circuit City has a better deal right now. Here you go. My second comment is in the wrong spot. Somehow the post I was replying to disappeared.

I was thinking the same thing. Spend $400-500, and save only $10 when ordering from Sony directly. So they're discounting full retail a few dollars. If shipping charges are involved, there go any savings.
You would be better off waiting for any deals or bundles from retail.

Hey, if you turn the music off, or down, and concentrate on narrating what you have, how is setup, and/or how you'd like your ending results to look like, it'd be better than what you have posted right now. You have me guessing as to what is running in which monitor, and why are there two monitors, is your PSP controlling your PS3 (which I didn't see), and so on and on. Again, narrate your video.

and the fact, unlike us who got our ps3s first day they were out, the new systems cannot and will not play ps1 or ps2 games. UNlike ours where there was a patch released so that we could, my friend bought one and sony pretty much said tough shit. So who would spend 400+ on a system that isnt backwards compatiable. My friend went and got a wii instead
JT @ Apr 5th 2008 11:25PM
Who would buy a PS3 to play PS2 games? Backwards compatibility is the most ridiculous argument i've ever heard. If you have ps2 games, and they're that important to you, then keep your ps2 plugged in.
DrXym @ Apr 6th 2008 6:07AM
Not quite true. PS1 titles play on every PS3. PS2 backwards compatibility varies by model. 60Gb features full hardware BC, 80Gb features partial hardware BC (which is still extremely good), the 40Gb has no PS2 hardware at all. So at present there is no BC in the 40Gb model.
However it seems likely that Sony will want to sell PS2 titles as downloads at some point so it seems like that some form of BC will eventually appear. I doubt it will be comprehensive as the other models.
Anyway, if BC is important, get an 80Gb model while you still can. Otherwise hang onto your PS2.
mntwister @ Apr 6th 2008 11:56AM
I searched out and found a 60gb ps3 to play blu-rays, ps2 and ps3 games. I never owned a game system but wanted to be able to buy cheaper games (ps2) if I so choose. So JT- backwards compatability was important to me, so it must be to some others.

Maybe you should tell your friend to dry his eyes.

You get an extra $100 off if you sign up for the sony card. Not a bad deal
DrXym @ Apr 6th 2008 5:59AM
Those packs aren't what I would call stunning value. I would expect a bundle to knock off a lot more than that.
I have seen quite a Blu Ray oriented packs. Totally aside from being great games consoles they are great multimedia players too.
Pingmeister @ Apr 7th 2008 3:26PM
Bought my Spiderman3 bundled PS3 for exactly the same reason. Still haven't played ONE game on it.
And I agree, this is no "deal". Buy the stuff separately with coupons and such and get the movie you WANT.
