Verizon gets official with massive FiOS TV HD VOD rollout
Looks like that HD VOD blanket we knew was being laid out has been confirmed by Verizon, as it stated today that HD VOD has been dished out to all service areas in California, Delaware, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Jersey, eastern Pennsylvania, Rhode Island and Texas. As for subscribers in New York and Oregon, you'll be joining the party "in the coming weeks." Finally, the carrier noted that it plans on offering up over 1,000 high-definition video-on-demand titles before the year's close -- now, if only it could locate a steady supply of AQUOS LCDs for new signups, we'd really be in business.

God help me. Who do I have to kill to get Verizon's TV service to come over my already installed FIOS line in Staten Island, NY? Time Warner makes me want to kill puppies.

When you find out, let me know. I'll distract him while you take aim. I've had FiOS for over a year, but still no sign of FiOS TV.

Nice! Are these DD and OAR? Can't assume anything these days, with Apple selling "HD movies" with Dolby Surround (2.0), and way too many services cropping the sides of HD movies.

That's pretty similar to the path most cable companies are on. This isn't that big of a deal.

So what. This is probably just more compressed HD-Lite bullcrap. I can download better looking movies off the internet. Even DivX crap looks better than the stuff they push out there on Dish, and that's not even on-demand. My apartment isn't big enough to allow me to sit far enough away from the TV so as to not be distracted by all the blocking or the washed out color.

Youll got your FiOS tv when bloomberg signs the franchise agreeement with Verizon. Which probably wont happen soon. He wants to make sure there wont be a work stoppage in August when the contract with its employees expires

When I read this, I ran downstairs to check out my VOD, and lo and behold, there was a HD section.
I watched Transformers in HD for $5.99.
The PQ is very good. I can't say that is noticeably better than DVD, but compared to the ULTRA CRAPPY PQ of the SD offerings, it is quite excellent.
(BTW, why IS the PQ on the SD VOD so poor?)
Bottom line, the HD VOD is great!

I tried it out tonight. Disappointed that the HD listings are just a textual title list and not photos as shown in the picture with SD movies.
Browsed the free stuff and had a good laugh watching "How to Boil Water"

FiOS is a pretty big success for Verizon so why are they even bothering with the free LCD promotion?
