If you've been doing a decent job of restraining yourself from hurling all sorts of foreign objects around the house due to the sluggishness in your
TiVo's operations, you should certainly reward yourself with a baked good. Moving forward, you'll likely be tested a lot less, as a forthcoming software update (version .8) promises to "significantly" speed up common tasks. More specifically, getting to TiVo Central, navigating around your Now Playing list, channel changing, starting a recording, and setting up a Season Pass have all been tweaked to react faster (exact improvements shown above). Additionally, TiVo users will soon have access to a so-called Priority Page on the firm's website where they can "sign up for this service update sooner than the scheduled rollout," which should occur naturally in "the next few weeks."

That should be nice. My TivoHD seems a little sluggish when navigating menus. I go over my co-workers house and he has a Series3 and it's so much faster I get jealous, then I remember I paid $500 less.

Actually, they put up the priority page already.
kastonie @ Apr 2nd 2008 6:50PM
Can i get a link please?
Dan S @ Apr 2nd 2008 7:11PM
Sure, it's http://www.tivo.com/priority
Dan S @ Apr 2nd 2008 7:14PM
PS: I'm not really sure what they're talking about with .8, since the tivo software is on 9.3 now (what the priority page is for).

Just an FYI, this update is also supposed to add advanced controls that Crestron can utilize. This is supposed to be RS232 or Ethernet control. It is not clear which will be implemented. I've been told by Crestron that the control module is waiting on this update from TiVo to be activated. We can't wait! It'll make the control of those units with Crestron seamless.

This upgrade is for Tivo Series 2 units ONLY. Series 3 and TivoHD units aren't compatible with this upgrade. But some of you brave souls out there are welcome to try.

"This priority list is for TiVo Series2 Digital Video Recorders only!
DIRECTV DVRs with TiVo and TiVo Series1 DVRs are not eligible for this update. If you have a Series3 or TiVo HD DVR, they will receive the Spring update automatically in the near future."

I got the same email from TiVo. They goofed and used internal reference numbers - .6 and .8. They meant 9.1 and 9.3.
