Band of Brothers coming to Blu-ray this year
Everyone's got their own most-anticipated DVD that has yet to make the jump to HD, if Band of Brothers is yours, the wait just got a little shorter. According to The Man Room, the latest issue of Home Media Magazine loosed from an HBO VP the detail that Band of Brothers, #6 top selling DVD of all time, will make an appearance on Blu-ray before the end of the year. While waiting for the boys of Easy Company, we'll just play Call of Duty a few more (thousand) times.

Can't wait. I was just wishing for this movie on HD (among others) the other day. Check out my list of hopefuls on HD:

I liked the series but it overused the Saving Private Ryan style photography and some of the effects were quite ropey.

SWEET! Now let's hope that it's subtitled in English (unlike the DVD version).

Weren't they supposed to make a continuance of the series; over in the Pacific theater? I have to say it was great watching this on A&E HD while they were running it. Made me remember why I couldn't stop watching in the first place.

It's another 10 part series with Hanks and Speilberg executive producing. They want to tell the story of the other front druing World War 2. The story will follow 3 charaters that throughout the series will be intertwined. It's got a huge budget too =D. I can't wait for it. 2009 needs to roll around faster.

OH MY GOD! THANK YOU! It's about damn time. It better have DTS MASTER Audio though, which would be expected since it is a Spielberg project. =D Now if we can bring out Saving Private Ryan on Blu-ray I'll be set for a long time. It will be like having WW2 battles in my living room. =) I can't wait.

Thanks for the info on the continuance, I'm really getting excited! Do you know if HBO still holds the rights to the series? Watching the series in HD would be the icing on the cake IMO!

i cant wait for the pacific story, since i have family that fought in the pacific!

@Doc
From what I know, HBO holds most of it and Dreamworks holds a small share since they were in association with HBO on it. Since HBO is apart of New line Cinema (aka. The new part of Warner Brothers). It alittle difficult to say who owns the exact full rights. The company that owns the History Channel and A&E home entertainment have a contract that only allows them to air the series. Just like Comedy Central has done with Futurama.

I suppose the fact that I've had this on HD DVD doesn't mean much.
If the BR release has the same quality and features as the HD DVD, people will be quite pleased. I know I've been very happy with my copy.

Where did you get Band of Brothers on HD DVD?
Killer @ Apr 2nd 2008 4:00PM
You can import it from Japan. It's in Japanese and English. I never did it because it was expensive and I really wanted better audio then the 5.1+ they offered on the HD DVD version.
FreeRange @ Apr 2nd 2008 3:53PM
Yet another reason I may buy Blu-Ray. And, like the others, it isn't available today so I'm waiting still.
DeadPixel @ Apr 2nd 2008 6:32PM
I dont have blue ray right now, but im definitely getting it now in anticipation of this!
James @ Apr 2nd 2008 9:37PM
I was tempted on a few occassions to import the HD DVD but it is too damn expensive.
