In order to be profitable and sell to the average consumer, you have to make crappy cheap TVs. Noone cares if they actually look good anymore, they just want cheap. Which is why your average person will choose DLP over Plasma every time. Doesn't make any sense.

Loban

Comments on Sony replaces top TV executive, attempts to boost profits

I agree with most of what you said. However, Sony's SXRD line-up is/was a beautiful tv. I guess technically it's not a DLP (it's LCoS), but plasma just didn't look that much better to warrant the higher price in my mind.

daaper

Comments on Sony replaces top TV executive, attempts to boost profits

Sony SXRD isn't DLP now is it? ;)

DLP is the bottom of the HDTV barrel. You're just looking to join the HDTV club when you buy DLP, or you're just looking to brag about the size of your TV, not the quality. For my money, I'd take a 50" 720 plasma over a 65" 1080 DLP any day of the week.

Loban

Comments on Sony replaces top TV executive, attempts to boost profits

Trinitron was amazing for its time with analogue service only, then 768p LCD RPTVs came on board with SXRD later to replace these as the "Trinitron of the 21st Century", yeah Sony, what happened? What was it...3 years to nothing?
Now all you get from Sony are 52" Bravia LCD panels, but the 60" and 70" size HDTVs are completely missing, nothing to replace them...what a stupid "marketing model", IMO.
Does Sony really think 52" sizes are going to "do it" for them, honestly? The sxrd sets are nice but, are like 3 chip dlp sets.
