Turnaround times measured in hours (not days), an automated customer service line that DOESN'T make you want to speak to a human being, and courteous, professional, speedy technicians are among the highlights.

But then, we've only had to call them once in over a year, so...

UnnDunn

Comments on FiOS TV service is great, Verizon customer service -- not so much

We have had FIOS Internet for about 18 months.(Southern CA) Fast as H*** (15d/5u) and for the most part very reliable. "Go to Besy Buy and get a DLINK model XXX". Too bad that model was discontinued a year ago. Three calls later, we are back in gear with no help from them. Its one of the many many reasons we discontinued our Verizon service less than a month in. Misquoting our bill, charging us for an extra box, charging us for an HD box when it was a normal box. Their customer service was TERRIBLE. We had to speak with 4 separate people before they did anything about the bill. Then they told us we had to pay for installation fees even though we cancelled within the month. We were told it would be no charge if we were to cancel when we did. We battled that bill for 2 months until they finally gave and credited our account.

And to Chesnu1, you don't want it. Trust me. You'd be better off with an analog antenna than Verizon.
Verizon is an all around terrible company. I hate their service. Hate their cell phone service as well. TERRIBLE TERRIBLE TERRIBLE. Stick with your local cable company, or even satellite. Just stay away from verizon.

Ryan

Comments on FiOS TV service is great, Verizon customer service -- not so much

Could not agree more. Verizon is the worst company when it comes to service that I have every delt with. I've said for over 10 years now that the wireless side has the best service with the worst customer service ever (I actually left verizon wireless for a few years due to the customer service, but am unfurtunately back with them now as I demand a phone that I now will always work). I ditched their landline years ago for the same reason.
Now I get FIOS (yeah I'm glutten for punishment, but at least I was smart enough not to sign a contract) last year and it could not have been a bigger disaster. From the 3 months it took to just hook it up to the 3 months it is still taking just to cancel it and everything in between. I won't bore you with all the details, just trust me it was horrible.
And I didn't think the service was all that great. At least their wireless side has a great product to go with their inept employees and retched customer service. The FIOS TV service was no better than my Cox Cable before it and can't hold a candle to my Dish service now.
So I don't get Engadget's love affair with FIOS. but I warn you all to stay far far away and whatever you do don't sign up for the internet so you can choose not to have a contract.

mcss1985

Comments on FiOS TV service is great, Verizon customer service -- not so much

Were still waiting on that Sharp hdtv as well. THANK YOU for setting it up so i can actually VIEW my bill. i am ever so thankful. the two accounts are still separate, one is charged to my mastercard, the other to my amex. i still havent ever been able to view my fios internet bill, but they're getting the money and i'm on the internet right now so i guess it's working for both of us.

all this with the original thinking that'd it's be nice to have my VZW, internet and tv on one bill. one can dream

gt

Comments on FiOS TV service is great, Verizon customer service -- not so much

FiOS *was* great back when I lived in Virginia. Everything worked well after some initial glitches (primarily with CableCARDs) during deployment. I had 50Mbps down/15Mbps internet, two of their DVR boxes, and 2 CableCARDs. All was well. Then, I moved to Maryland.

Now, I have 4 CableCARDs for a TiVo Series 3 and TiVo HD. The CableCARDs, in random numbers, keep "deactivating". First it was 1, then all 4, then 2, now 3. I don't know what to expect next, but I keep calling them, and they keep escalating the issue to their offline "Video Group" that probably knows my account by heart. Of course, while they take their precious time, I keep missing my programming, and have to crowd around a 26" TV in our home office in order to actually watch dependable TV.

I've threatened to switch to Comcast, but this is one of the few Comcast markets left I guess that actually has fewer HD channels than FiOS, and I'd be losing two of my favourites: Discovery HD and Food HD.

I've also threatened to jump to DirecTV, but can't really imagine actually giving up my TiVos for a generic STB.

I can definitely say that their customer service does try, but can be trained way better than they presently are. Many I speak to have no clue about CableCARDs, and immediately try to upsell a DVR to me, which I don't want. I also cannot stand the IVR system. I finally got a direct line out of one of the reps.

I definitely think YMMV with FiOS service, but I can say that my annoyance with the service isn't made better by their people.

Jaron Brass

Comments on FiOS TV service is great, Verizon customer service -- not so much

I SEE STUPID PEOPLE AND THEY ARE ALL HIRED BY VERIZON!!!! Four weeks ago, I moved into a brand new home that is "Verizon Ready" (meaning, Verizon boxes are supplied in the garage). So -- I decide to get the Verizon Bundle (internet, phone, and FiOS). The day after my move, a Verizon tech deleted my MS Project from my laptop when adding the Verizon internet service (HOW did this Schmuck do that?). PS -- I use that program EVERYDAY!!!Without informing me that there was a shortage of HD boxes for my beautiful flatscreens, I receive basic FiOs boxes (meaning, I can't have access to HD channels until the HD boxes are shipped to me). Well a week later, boxes are shipped, along with a return address label for the OLD boxes. NOTE: I AM NOT calling and being passed around call centers of America to establish an activation for service NOR AM I going to visit the Verizon website to view connection diagrams and I AM NOT driving to a UPS center to return the wrong boxes that I wasn't supposed to receive in the first place. DON'T THESE BASTARDS KNOW THE COST OF GAS THESE DAYS??? Would you believe that Verizon tried to charge an additional $79.99 for the techs to get their fannies BACK to my home and perform their friggin' jobs as they are supposed to do in order to earn a check? I've been stood up for the first install date (last Monday) and while I'm typing at this second, tech support says that someone will be here by 7PM. I hope like hell they show because if not, the Executive Managers will receive the Ultimate Nasty Gram. These COCKSUCKERS (As my Dear old Dad says), can kiss my bottom. I hope to never speak with any of them again. Just bill me and keep my service on -- don't call me for any promos, leave me alone for God's sake!!!!!!!!!! This company is screaming for standardization in business practices, improved customer service and quality. I'm beginning to regret leaving Comcast. They don't seem nearly as DUMB and you don't get transferred around the country and each call doesn't last from 40 minutes to 1.5 hours. GRRRRRRRRRRRRR!!!!!!!!!!!!!
