Comcast readying 11 HD newcomers for Portland, Oregon
Just months after Verizon expanded its FiOS TV service to reach even more of the greater Portland area, Comcast is making moves in a presumed attempt to keep locals hooked on cable. According to several users in the area, Comcast has notified them that 11 new HD channels will be emerging on May 1st. Granted, we're a bit concerned about how they'll actually look once launched -- and considering the history here, if they'll launch -- but those curious to know what new additions are slated to hit Portland's HD lineup can click on through for the full list.[Thanks, Brad and Keith]
New additions to Portland, Oregon's Comcast lineup as of May 1, 2008:
- Disney HD - 741
- ABC Family - 739
- TBS-HD 755
- Discovery Channel HD - 707 (Discovery HD Theater moving to 711)
- TLC HD - 738
- Science Channel HD - 772
- Food Network HD - 766

Freakin FINALLY is all I have to say about Discovery and Sci-Fi. Sure, the HD theater is cool, but I want all of the regular Discovery shows in HD too! Sci-Fi will mostly only really excite me for SG-1, but that's enough for me :)

Message this morning that Salem is getting 11 more. I would assume they are the same channels. The only specifics were Disney and ABC Fam.

Come on COMCAST customers! Demand they add HDNet and HDNet Movies. Far and away better than the stretch-o-vision crap channels Comcast has BEEN adding all across the country.

Comcast in Portland,OR..I'm in Vancouver WA, in the Portland OR market. There seems to be a big variation in the pq among the HD channels. ESPN and CNN are amazing, while others range from excellent to so-so. I watch some action sports and notice that HBO has more boxing/pixilation that Showtime or Versus. My main issue, however, is the "stretching" that occurs on some of the non-premium channels like Food Network, some TNT shows, etc. Everyone looks wide and fat :). I cannot adjust this with my display or by settings on the HD receiver. Also, when is CBS going to broadcast their national news in HD? They/CBS seem very slow on the uptake. EOM
