Blu-ray releases on March 25th, 2008
Here we are on the first week of the Blu-ray releases post, but that doesn't mean we won't mention Red at all, as the number one title -- to us -- this week is also available on HD DVD; Digital Video Essentials, HD Basics. This is a must own for any HDTV enthusiast because it will help you get the most out of your HDTV. We have to admit that we don't know what the difference between this long over due version, and the one previously available on HD DVD, though. The only other title worth mentioning this week is the catalog title from Warner, Bonnie & Clyde. Sony has Steep, but honestly we've never heard of it. Buy the biggest news this week is the non-release of a few titles that are from studios who were previously red, and are now MIA in the HD media landscape; including The Mist, from Weinstein, The Kite Runner, from Dreamworks, and the catalog title Lost Highway, from Universal. Nothing earth shattering, but three solid titles we'd would've like to have had the opportunity to see in HD.Blu-ray
- Bonnie & Clyde (Warner)
- Digital Video Essentials: HD Basics (DVD International)
- Mendelssohn: A Midsummer Night's Dream (Opus Arte)
- Naked Beneath the Water (Phoenix Group)
- Steep (Sony)

Yawn, this was a boring week for releases.
Looks like someone forgot to close a bold tag.

April looks to be a lot better, with titles like Unbreakable, Juno, and The Golden Compass on the horizon.
I guess I can save the money this week towards that Batman Begins giftset in July.

I wouldn't bother with The Golden Compass. It takes a good book and turned it into mush. Great effects but virtually every line is expository with no room at all for character development. It just feels all wrong. It needed to be at least 20-30 minutes longer. The abrupt "happy" ending also means that two key chapters in the book get flipped around to make it fit.

The 1st week without HD-DVD in the release section. Kind of sad....not :)

I believe the original release of Digital Video Essentials on HD DVD was basically just the original SD version of the title on DVD, with the flip side being some HD DVD test patterns. This release is supposed to be created from the ground up for the HD formats, so it's really the one we've been waiting for.

Oh, and I'm excited about the Bonnie & Clyde release. I love the classics on Blu-ray. Having such awesome quality at home is really reigniting my love of film.

If you're into extreme skiing and amazing outdoor shots of mountains, you might actually be interested in Steep. I'm looking forward to seeing it. The trailer makes it look amazing. Of course, I like to ski.

I've been waiting for a widescreen US release of Lost Highway for a long, long time now (I have it in "letterbox" on VHS, that's how long). It's on Amazon as having a release date of tomorrow, so I hope that it really happens. Of course, I'll probably get it on Blu-ray if it manages to make it that far.

I would love to see Lost of the Mohicans on Blu-ray !
