Barely a month after we heard that Comcast SportsNet New England was
headed to certain areas in Connecticut, Comcast has went and added a new pair of high-def options in most areas of the state. As of this morning, both Animal Planet HD (193) and SciFi HD (217) were viewable, and according to a local company employee, there's more where this came from "in the coming weeks." Hang tight, Connecticut -- it sounds like more high-definition programming is on the way.
[Thanks, Erik]

Nice to see Comcast finally adding these to CT, I've been waiting a good while.

Sadly not in Groton CT yet.

Sweet. I got these in Danbury, CT this morning. So for me I'm just need them to add a few...ESPNEWS (when it launches), SPEED, TLC, MSG, MSG+ (FSNY), TWC and ESPNU (launches August 2008)

I was hoping they would bring SciFi HD here before Battlestar started its new season.

Agreed. I live in the Bay Area, where most professionals are geeks. And geek people usually watch scifi shows. And yet, Comcast brought no SciFi Channel our way yet, while Battlestar Galactica's final season starts in April. Fail for their marketing dept.

Yeah only the 3 major market areas out of ~13 got the new channels... Hardly worth getting excited about. Very frustrating that the cable companies can't update the infrastructure to handle the additional HD channels. I am in the Groton service area also...

Bunch of crap! Most of CT didn't see these new channels. Those stuck in the Branford or Groton systems have not seeing updated HD channels in a long time.

I just called my local office (Comcast SJ) and they have no idea when we'll be getting new HD channels.
I'm tempted to jump to DirecTV (inspite of weather issues w/ Satelite) since they have more than twice the HD for the same price.
Eugenia Loli-Queru @ Mar 12th 2008 8:47PM
On the other hand, DirecTV does not have the same quality as Comcast has. Comcast broadcasts at 1920x1080 interlaced, while DirecTV does so in 1440x1080 interlaced with aspect ratio 1.3333. There is less visual information on their signal, even on a clear day.

Comcast needs to give Montgomery County, MD some lovin'.

Nothing is happening in Middletown area as well.
