No Country for Old Men gets reviewed on Blu-ray
It's no surprise that this year's winner of Best Picture is garnering quite a bit of buzz on Blu-ray, so we figured it prudent to pass along a review for those still on the fence about adding it to their collection. Without giving away any of the plot, reviewers seemed quite pleased with the HD transfer, noting that the plethora of special effects were "highly defined" and the beauty of the location was able to really shine. As for audio, nothing was really frowned upon, but it was stated that the lossless track didn't add much over the Dolby Digital track considering the film's heavy reliance on dialogue. Unfortunately, the shining review headed south when we came to extras, as this disc has SD bonus features that do little to excite. Still, fans of the film are likely to find enough here in the feature presentation alone to make it worth owning, but those curious simply because of its recently acquired accolades may be better off renting first.

This movie is why no one watched the Oscar. This movie SUCKED! All Art, no actual story. .

Art imply that art must come at the expense of story, and vice versa...

Are you serious? I don't go to the movies much anymore BECAUSE movies aren't like this one.
This film was top notch, it was beautiful, and the story telling matched the plot stylization.

not a huge fan of electronic house... they're not as discerning or critical as some of us. They recently posted an article on mp3s and music compression bitrates, saying they couldn't tell the difference between 128 and 256, and that using LAME to encode was "dorky".
I've said it before, EH is great for finding mistakes, then correcting them in the comments.
I'd suggest highdefdigest.com for blu-ray reviews.... unless someone has another good suggestion

Has anyone noticed that the actors name are not under the correct actors?
Peetah @ Mar 11th 2008 11:38AM
I didn't notice until you said something. That's funny. What an oversight.

DVD covers are always like that. It's so stupid, but for some reason they always think that the image of the most important actor is in the middle, and the name of the most important actor should be on the left(Though this one's a little different). It's like the text and image are done in two different departments.

While I welcome the PCM 5.1 track, what do people expect from the audio? Uh, there's no music and the only time the sparse sound landscape ever registers anything above gravel being kicked up by a car or two men writhing on the floor flighting, is when the gunshots or explosions kick in which is few and far between.

This is a very well done movie. Great acting and Javier Bardum plays one of the screens all-time bad men.
Jove @ Mar 11th 2008 1:30PM
look il be real wit you. altough i think it deserved best supporting actor award since bardem played a real psycho ("call it" that never sounded so... evil! lol) i really didnt like this film. maybe i need to see it again considering that i never understood the plot. but when it was over i said to myself "thats it?" not that i was expecting a happy ending or anything like it but, i mean i tought it was kinda bring. however dont get me wrong this was by no means a bad movie. just kind of ambigous to me! anyways, anyone knows when is sweeney todd coming out for blu ray or if when its coming out on dvd?
JeffNLA @ Mar 11th 2008 2:29PM
This movie was a critics wet dream. Nebulous and pointless. Yes.. I get the metaphor that Javier Bardam was the embodiment of evil, and evil does not rest or stop. Bla Bla Bla... again ..Critics masturbation.
Think the English Patient.

It's always easy for people to dismiss a successful film they didn't like by claiming that only critics liked it, choosing to ignore the scads of moviegoers who agreed.

It's fairly obvious to me why the special features for this disc -- just like most HD discs that have come out -- are scant: the studio is leaving room for double- and triple-dipping later on.
