Joe Kane offers upgrade pricing for forthcoming DVE: HD Basics
Not only is ESPNews HD slated to launch this month, but the long-awaited HD Basics disc from Joe Kane Productions is finally hitting shelves on March 25th. Interestingly, Digital Video Essentials: HD Basics will still be made available on Blu-ray and HD DVD, so those adamant about keeping a red player around can still get in on the calibration action. Best of all, users who purchased the original Digital Video Essentials HD DVD last year will be able to procure the forthcoming successor disc for just $14.95 on either format by ordering online and sending in the case wrap from the first DVE HD DVD. As for everyone else? You'll be coughing up $29.95.

You have the wrong covers up. You can get the correct covers here:
from the dvdinternational site or amazon.

Because we ALL keep the case wrapping for months. At least I know I do.

I threw away the plastic covering, the silly white anti-theft protection sticker and the stupid RFID tag stuck to the inside of the case when I bought mine last June. I guess I will have to spend the 3 extra dollars for the upgrade.

Are you interpreting it to mean the cellophane? There's no actual information on that that would be useful to Joe Kane productions.
The original DVD was a cardboard snapper case, and I think sending in the case maybe, for some odd reason, called "case wrap". I've not seen that terminology before. Sending in the case might make more sense as that proves that you're upgrading from the DVD version.

Why didn't you mention that the $29 is MSRP. Amazon has it for $18 right now on pre-orders. Also, you have the wrong covers. Amazon has the new versions too.

This upgrade price is a little steep, seeing as how a new one costs only $3 more. But I went ahead and pulled the paper insert from the case of my HD-DVD edition and am sending it in, anyway. I suppose they didn't have to offer ANY upgrade path so something is a little better than nothing. (And they are probably thinking: Hey our upgrade price is 50% off so that's a great deal...)

As someone who's never used something like this, can someone give me a basic explanation of what this would do for my TV/PS3 and how it's helpful?
Thanks!

If you don't know how to use it, it would do absolutely nothing..
It's only a set of static images that help you calibrate your display to, err, display accurate colors, brightness levels, shapes, etc.. But that's about it, you have to do the actual work, and for the casual gamers/tv viewers it's not worth the trouble, this is a hardcore videophile thing
