I got it from best buy when they were selling 42" 720p LCD magnevox for 699, but with the rebate is was only 599 and since they didn't have any magnevoxes or any 720p Vizios around, they gave us a 1080p 42" Vizio! But there is no reason to think this will be a Vizio, other than that they are one of the least expensive brands around.  Of course, with that low cost comes the fact that once they are out of warranty it is cheaper to buy a new one than get a broken one repaired (since they only way they service them is if you ship them to their CA warehouse and pay a large flat "repair fee").<br><br>I gotta say, even at this price, I wouldn't buy one for "future use" since I did that once with a CE device -- and by the time the future came, I could have spent far less and gotten far more, and not have been sitting on an unopened box for a year. The LCDs they currently sell are all cruddy as it is, so it's not like getting an even BIGGER one for less money is "good".<br><br>They're already the famous, non-standard LCD resolution of 1366x768, which always looks like poo, but on top of that it's upscaled all the way to a monstrous 52". Now, yes, there are different levels of quality from panel to panel and manufacturer to manufacturer, but you could just as easily find one of those lesser panels in the known "brand name" panel that you just pay $300 - $1500 over the comparable "no name".  <br><br>For instance, Best Buy's in-house brand, Insignia, has panels made by LG.<br><br>Now I'm not trying to convince anyone to not buy a "brand name". It's ALL about the electronics, not the glass. Pioneer said the same thing this week when they noted that the glass they use for their Plasma displays isn't as important as the electronics that they make. But they don't come close to the big four for picture quality,they have some of the slowest responce times of any lcds and there deinterlacing is among the worst.Bad color too.
