The first ESPNews HD screenshots
We know you're probably too wrapped up in the looming March Madness to actually stop and realize what month it is, but sure enough, March is the month in which ESPNews HD is slated to land. Just as 2007 was drawing to a close, we got word that designers had finalized the new channel's graphics package -- fast forward a tick, and we see this. Judging by the photo above along with a number of others in the read link below, we'd say we're more anxious than ever to feast our eyes and ears on 24/7 sporting news. Of course, we've yet to see any confirmation that these are real, but we can't imagine someone going out of their way to mock 'em up. Launch day (whenever that may be) can't come soon enough.

They're real mockups, they come from ESPN directly.

GO HOKIES!

Something isn't right. Nebraska and Colorado are not in the Big Ten (upper right hand corner).

Guys, the screenshots are mockups done by ESPN. You can read the official release and see more mockups/screenshots by clicking here. http://www.espnmediazone.com/press_releases/2007_10_oct/20071015_ESPNEWSHDtoLaunchinMarch2008.htm

You know what ESPN should do, or other channels for that matter, make ESPNews interactive, particularly with the scores. Just use your remote to highlight and scroll to whatever section you want to read about and instantly get those scores. It would be so much better so you wouldn't have to wait for the bottome line to scroll to the NFL news when it's going through 100 NCAA scores.
Just make the channel interactive like D* active channel.
Does anyone else think this is a good idea?
riggs @ Mar 7th 2008 12:57PM
it would have to be a completely seperate channel though (i would guess).
i had an idea where your cable box menu would show the scores for the game (when you press info) when u have the channel set to a game.

DirecTV does this with certain channels and similar sports. I think you can get football scores watching football, but you can't get basketball scores watching football... at least last we checked. You can move the highlighter around, hit "OK" and tune to the game if it's available on Directv.

THIS is how the extra 16x9 real estate should be used for news! We don't need a wider angle of the studio, or to be able to see the whole desk the anchor is behind and especially vertical letters of the network's name on each side.
Additional information can be displayed adjacently, tickers can be made into readable sized script, and many other uses!

TWC customers should be getting this channel around.....never?
Rob @ Mar 10th 2008 10:09AM
TWC has agreed to carry ESPNEWS-HD at launch. I'm sure it is subject to each systems capacity.
