Verizon runs into short supply on Sharp LCD offer
Good news / bad news here, folks. First, the good: HD is seeing some impressive uptake amongst everyday consumers. Now the bad: there are isolated shortages of the associated gear. Verizon's FiOS has already been bitten by set-top box shortages, and now is a victim of its own successful promotional offer that promised 19-inch Sharp Aquos LCD TVs to new "triple-play" (internet, video and phone) subscribers. Those LCD TVs are a little short in supply, so affected customers can choose to either wait an additional five weeks for their TV, substitute a Magnavox (used in later promotions) set or take a $200 Best Buy gift card. Our advice -- wait on the Sharp. Meanwhile, let's hope that there's some way Verizon can coordinate the set-top box and TV shortages -- nothing is more frustrating than having new HD service but being stuck with an old SD set![Image courtesy GreatLittleBox]

19" Sharp? Screw that, I'd take the $200 giftcard and put it towards a 42" Plasma!

Dont matter, I didnt get a choice. They called and said that I would be getting a $200 best buy gift card in the mail in 2 weeks. THAT WAS OVER A MONTH AGO!! I just called and they said no one told me that (good thing I saved the voice mail) and it was actually 6-8 weeks just for processing. She told me this without looking up my account either.

This triple play deal of theres....what exactly is the video component?
My mom is with Time Warner and she gets phone, internet, and cable. Is the video part of that deal akin to the cable part of my mom's deal with TW?

Same thing -- "video" would be FiOS TV. (I'm assuming that it's FiOS, anyway. I can't imagine that it would be TV over a DSL connection.)

I'm being held captive by Crime Warner... there are NO alternatives, not even OTA. So for me, to hell with the free 19 incher, just get the fiber INSTALLED and allow me to do Verizon's triple play!
I'm getting sick and tired of certain neighborhoods in my city that not only get 10 MORE HD channels, but actually pay LESS for their monthly charges (10%).

In RI there giving you a sammy 8mp camera for the triple play

Are you really purchasing/signing up for FiOS TV when you don't already have an HD set? You are signing up dependent on the tiny excuse of an HD set they are offering. I don't think so.
For the record the TV does come over the fiber.

Just an update. It seems that Verizon is not even giving the option to wait for the Sharp and are just shipping the Magnavox instead.

I just got mine yesterday, after 3 months of waiting...

It really is a nice little set, it's got a built in DVD player too. Too bad it's only hooked up to an SD box!
