I have this one and the Dvico 6500a. The Dvico is much better, imo

Can't wait to get my hands on one of these. I'd get a Dvico but it's twice as expensive as the popcorn hour.

I have one of these, and just want to issue a warning to those who plan on buying one. If you are planning on playing back full dvd .iso's or MKV 720/1080p rips, you can forget wireless or SMB. You'll need to either install an internal IDE drive, use a USB 2.0 external, or stream via HTTP. Using any form of wireless, or SMB will certainly result in many dropped frames during intense scenes when the bitrate jumps. These will reach the max throughput of the Popcorn, at just over 40mbps.

I'm not surprised. I plan to stream it over a wired connection or hook up a hard drive anyway.

i was thinking about getting one of these or sagetv's hd extender but was wondering if i rip my hd-dvd's to my hdd will they play same pq as my hd-dvd player?

great review how does the video quality of a hd rip compare to playing it from a hd player (hd-dvd/bluray)

I've been watching mostly lower bitrate 720p h.264, but I did watch a complete rip of Eastern Promises and it looked great, and subtitles worked. I have a 360HD-DVD drive on order, and if I decide to keep it, I'm going to try ripping some HD-DVDs of my own so I'll be able to compare the A100 to the Tosh A2. That way I can compare Apples to Apples (and even run the HQV HD Disc).
Even the low bitrate stuff I've been watching looks great, but one thing to note. AFAIK, the HDMI is 1.1 only. That means, likely no future support for DD+ or Dolby TrueHD. You'll be limited to Dolby Digital, but then again, that's more than Apple gives you with most of their "HD" downloads.
I just don't like to throw around the term HD when what I mean is HD-Video. Let's not forget to show audio some love.

appreciate the answer going to have to keep an eye out for one. i have a buddy who will loan me his hd-dvd addon so i can rip my movies and i also have dual tuner with beyondtv. i bought hauppauge mvp for watching my recordings on tv and couldn't beleive how bad the pq was. anyhow look forward to hearing how the apple to apple comparision goes..
