Cox Arizona adding seven HD channels in March
Look out, desert dwellers, as Cox Communications is all set to dish out seven new HD channels to Arizona residents next month. On deck is TBS HD, Discovery Channel HD, Science Channel HD, Food Network HD, Animal Planet HD, Golf / Versus HD and History Channel HD. As of now, we've no idea where these will fit into the EPG, but you can phone up Cox and start to gripe if the whole lot doesn't arrive on March 18th.

Yea i would like some sports channels like Fox Sports Net so I can watch the Dbacks games in HD or WGN HD...who cares about food in HD...HD is meant for sports and that what they need to give us
chestnu1 @ Feb 27th 2008 8:41PM
Hey great if they are adding channels in arizona then perhapes they will add some more HD here in las vegas we are only next door and I still want Sci-Fi HD.
Bill @ Feb 27th 2008 9:05PM
TBS-HD is stretched to fill the space on most of there programs, not true HD
Dayton Guy @ Feb 27th 2008 10:25PM
I am surprised that the TBS' own shows like "10 Items Or Less" and "House Of Payne" are also in Stretch-O-Vision... Very disapointing for a network that has showed zero hours of HD since the LCS during the baseball playoffs.
Aaron @ Feb 27th 2008 10:27PM
Yeah, TBS is definitely doing it wrong.
Happy_man @ Feb 27th 2008 11:56PM
Now if they would only add a little more upload juice to their preferred and premium customers because 512 k/b and 1 M/b uploads are not cutting it. At least double it like the other regions around America dammit.
masulsaisright @ Feb 28th 2008 12:03AM
This is ridiculous!
All of these channels are crap cable channels.
Food network in HD? Give me a break.
TBS in HD? Give me a break. They don't even offer true HD programming.
I'm trying to think of why I should stick with cox with Direct TV and Dish network already have the HD channels that I want.
Sci Fi HD
FX HD
USA HD
Those are the channels that I am excited about, not the friggin food channel.
Also, unless you subscribe to the sports tier, you will not get the golf/versus HD channel at all!
So I have to pay $5 extra a month to get this one channel in HD? whart a crock.
I might add the tier and cancel the variety tier that I have. The only channel that I watch on that channel is G4.
However, have you looked at the lineup for golf/versus? It sucks. Unless versus HD is the same vs. channel that shows yankees games. That might make it worth it.
So, will we have to add more tiers in order to receive all of the non movie HD channels that cox is going to add over the rest of the year?
Also, cox used to advertise 80 HD channels in 2008. Now they are only advertising 60 additional HD channels. What is up with that? Is that 60 plus the current 20 to get us to 80? Does that count extra package HD channels such as more cinemax HD, HBO HD, etc...???
I am very upset that these are the channels that we are getting from cox.
Hopefully their VOD service will come soon and it will not stink.

Meh... waiting for Sci-Fi HD and SpeedHD, then I'd be happy.

I agree with everyone so far that Cox AZ has done very little to add more HD channels. And why do they keep on changing their HD quantity 08' goals? I do understand that Cox AZ is in a bandwidth crunch right now but they only have a few options to remedy their problem: Get rid of Analog channels, Use SDV (Switch Digital Video), or get cable boxes that can handle frequencies from 860mhz to 1Ghz. Also with their EON that should help the backbone system but it will still not stop their crunch. I bet Cox will just start using SDV like crazy to help reduce their bandwidth.
Hey does anyone else find it weird that Cox says they do not charge for HD but if you have a clear-QAM tuner you can only get channels 703-715. Everything from 721 to below 780 is all subscription which makes no sense.
Anyways if anyone wants to keep up to date with Cox you should check out this forum: http://www.landlpcservices.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=726&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=135

anyone know if ondemand is hitting at the same time? they are in the midst of a huge overhall of their fiberoptics for both the new hd channels and ondemand.
I WANT ON DEMAND!!!
Andy Sullivan @ Feb 28th 2008 12:01PM
I switched from Cox to Directv years ago. What are you all waiting for? Golf Channel in HD, Sci-Fi, USA, TBS, soon to come ESPN News plus a bunch more.
Kingpcgeek @ Feb 28th 2008 12:53PM
Yes they are adding 7 in March, but last December they told us they were adding 12 in March. So don't hold your breath for 80 by the end of 2008. Kind of like that 100 HD channels that D* was going to have by the end of 2007.
masulsaisright @ Feb 28th 2008 8:50PM
Anybody else here in the Phoenix area thinking of ditching cox for better HDTV service?
Is this why we subscribe to cox?
masulsaisright @ Feb 28th 2008 8:52PM
Anyone else thinking of cancelling Cox?
masulsaisright @ Feb 28th 2008 8:52PM
They are now holding back on the 80 by the end of the year. They switched it on their website to 60 by the end of the year.
What if we have to add different tiers to get all 60?
With if this 60 includes premium movies channels?
That would suck!!!
klikkymax @ Feb 29th 2008 3:11AM
were receiving HD channels even if were not subscribed to cox digital. it happened since we started using an HDTV. but subscribing to cox with more HD channels would make us pay for that converter box thingy..

Gah, I'm getting my new HDTV tomorrow and switching the DVR to a DVR-HD, but I guess I won't have Sci-Fi HD for the new season of Battlestar Galactica. Darn it !
masulsaisright @ May 18th 2008 3:03AM
Wow,
No new channels since March! What a joke!
Where is my Sci-Fi HD?
USA HD?
FX HD?
