Last night's All-Star game
continued tradition by debuting new broadcast technology, as you may have noticed Sportvision's "Backboard Slideout" graphic, superimposing pictures and text on a virtual screen during free throws. It was pretty slick, almost indistinguishable from a real billboard. We've gotten pretty used to virtual graphics (does anyone remember football before the yellow first down line?), any opinions on this latest use of the tech, or predictions on how if it can withstand the power of a Dwight Howard dunk?

Pretty cool tech, although it can get quite annoying at times.

I actually did take notice to it and thought it could be useful during a basketball game. I just hope they don't overdo it or use it just for ads.

Yes, please stick to stats and game related information and don't overdo it. I'm fine with it that way. But, alas, that is likely to be a pipe dream. It won't be long before the have ads popping out of the backboard and only God knows where else.

lol, it would have been sick if they had the slide out in-game, and then someone dunks and the graphic shatters. i would have gone crazy...

I remember in 92 when people freaked out over Fox putting the score/quarter/time in the upper corner during football games. Whiners said it was too intrusive. As for the yellow first down market...eh, I could live without it as spotting the ball is totally subjective.

Can you say more advertising dollars!
