Paramount's Transformers showing up in Blu-ray attire?
Per usual, we'd recommend not getting too riled up over this until it's proven definitively true or false, but considering that pallbearers actually hoisted up HD DVD's casket already this morning, maybe there's not too much sense in doubting. Nevertheless, an eagle-eyed Circuit City employee has apparently located Transformers in its internal database completely doused in Blu. You heard right -- a Blu-ray 2-disc edition of the Michael Bay flick is reportedly showing up with a UPC code different than the HD DVD version. 'Course, this really isn't quite as surprising today as it would've been yesterday -- you know, considering that BD and HD VMD are really the only options left for studios to run to -- but feel free to make of it what you will.

Did that employee also find Nfinity's copy of Dark Knight on HD-DVD on that list?
luvincharity @ Feb 16th 2008 12:00PM
Thats a big no.

Hey, Larry aka Poof
Your homophobic responses do nothing but highlight the fact that you are scared to admit that your own sexuality.
If you are going to make a fake account, you should really make a fake account, not just change your name.

Still trying to guess what Nfinity and TT are going to say about this and pick on them for the millionth time about something they've said in the past, huh? Cause that NEVER gets old. Get a hobby. Seriously.
Mike @ Feb 16th 2008 12:21PM
What's funny about them is that no matter how bad HD-DVD is doing, they still come out screaming and cheering for their favorite failed media of choice, like a guy who can't accept the fact his girlfriend has broken up with him.
DEEZNUTZ @ Feb 16th 2008 12:37PM
Truth Teller knows how to push buttons, so I'm convinced he just loves to rile PS3 folks up... with much success. He will likely own a BD player once he's convinced it suits HIS needs.
NFINITY is another matter. That guy is out there. This week has shattered the world he thought he knew so go easy on him guys.
ProfWho @ Feb 16th 2008 1:30PM
You mean something he railed on and on about 2 days ago? Yeah, that is so past. If Nfinity did run his mouth off like an idiot I wouldn't make fun of him. It is no my fault he sounded like Baghdad Bob talking about how there are no US soldiers at the airport.
mcrexx @ Feb 16th 2008 12:21PM
To quote Shang Tsung from Mortal Kombat... "IT HAS BEGUN!" muahahahaha
Carbonize @ Feb 16th 2008 6:23PM
Wasn't it Rayden that said that on the boat when the souls started flying around?
mcrexx @ Feb 16th 2008 6:24PM
No that was definitely Shang Tsung :)
WebDev511 @ Feb 16th 2008 12:23PM
Frankly I'm not surprised that prior exclusives are starting to show up. The questions that remain to be answered is how much of the extras from the HD DVD version show up and how well are they implemented.
The irony is that you'll probably be able to buy a 1080p HD DVD player and all the exclusive titles for less than the BD titles alone.
Nfinity @ Feb 16th 2008 1:59PM
No worries.. I bet you Warner, Universal and Paramount STILL release movies in HD DVD for a good chunk of bucks from a 1+ million consumer base.. HD DVD will still grow.. there will be people buying dual format players, HD DVD players for $100 or less.
Not to mention CH-DVD.. just wait and see ;)
ProfWho @ Feb 16th 2008 2:04PM
LOL, you cannot make this shit up. Nfinity what part of stopping production do you not understand?
benny boy @ Feb 16th 2008 2:13PM
LOL Nfinity.
If you truly believe this, I think you need to wake up and smell the Blu.
You can't actually believe what you're saying is true. Maybe you just enjoy the abuse and criticism of your impossible views.
Nate the Prophet @ Feb 16th 2008 3:37PM
As much as Nfinity is insane, he does have a point here. I'm sure that Paramount and Universal will come out this week and announce that they too are going Blu.
BUT I also bet you that they'll continue releasing HD-DVDs for a short time anyway (until summer?) because if there is still someone to buy them (even if it's only 20% of the market) they can still make money on the movies that are all ready to go and just have to be duplicated.
New movies...that's another story. It's probably not worth the cost of production for films that have not been made into HD-DVD yet.
DrXym @ Feb 16th 2008 12:33PM
In the EU at least there is an 1980's Transformers on Blu Ray. I wouldnt be so certain it's the 2007 movie until box art appears saying as much.
luvincharity @ Feb 16th 2008 12:59PM
Dude think about it why would a 80's cartoon be in a 2-disc blu-ray special edition?
DrXym @ Feb 16th 2008 2:05PM
I have no idea. I'm just saying there is a Transformers blu ray disk so why leap to conclusions just yet? Everyone knows Paramount & Universal will go Blu eventually but there is no point getting so worked up. It's not as if Michael Bay movies are even worth all the attention they get.
Andy @ Feb 16th 2008 1:06PM
Where does it officially list it as a 2 disc special edition, if it's not listed anywhere, then who says this isn't the old 80's cartoon?
luvincharity @ Feb 16th 2008 1:30PM
Did you read the story or view the gallery?
Andy @ Feb 16th 2008 3:30PM
My name too?
syphix @ Feb 18th 2008 1:24PM
Did you see the image on the far left in the gallery? Blades of Glory for Blu-ray, too. Explain that...
JayHDDVD @ Feb 16th 2008 1:08PM
I hope this is true.
But how could they create this on BD so quietly until now I woner?
Also, I bet it has the crappy DD+ audio so I will be passing until they put it on blu with DTS-HD-MA :D
tw1zt3d @ Feb 16th 2008 1:37PM
honestly, if its that much of a step up over the HD DVD (which i don't know how it could be), i can see people double dipping (or triple dipping in some instances) once they realize they have to get their bd players...
MI @ Feb 16th 2008 2:44PM
This is no shock, Paramount and Universal have been working on their BD plans since January. I'm guessing that Toshiba announced today, because Paramount planned their announcement for monday and Toshiba wanted to save face before they were abandoned.
I'm expecting Paramounts announcement will include Transformers, Jack Ryan (and actually WITH the features listed on the box) and a few other high profile titles for imminent release.
What an exciting time to be alive!
Killer @ Feb 16th 2008 3:02PM
@JayHDDVD
"Also, I bet it has the crappy DD+ audio so I will be passing until they put it on blu with DTS-HD-MA :D"
Yes, because only a small 16 to 18% of Blu-ray movies have DTS Master, and Majority coming from Fox and Lionsgate. Don't worry though, I'm sure they'll do what Sony does with their movies, because they are too lazy to re-master the sound, so they just use the uncompressed audio. You can do better sony, and disney!
One main reason I love Fox, Lionsgate, and New line. They produce movies with the master of all audio (no pun intended.)
alienclays @ Feb 16th 2008 8:20PM
with the ps3 still the most dominat bd player, please feel free to use lpcm and dolby true hd to your hearts content.
my ps3 and my str-dg1100 would be happy for it.
Rodney @ Feb 16th 2008 8:18PM
cool, now I might actually buy a blu-ray player.
MI @ Feb 16th 2008 9:24PM
Hey, I forgot to ask; did they see a date on Transformers??
Darkstar @ Feb 16th 2008 10:58PM

loony2472002 @ Feb 20th 2008 5:48PM
i work at blockbuster and we have a transformer blu ray listing too. it only had the original dvd release date.
cptGreedle @ Feb 27th 2008 1:22PM
The problem with this is it is probably NOT the Michael Bay movie. This fuzzy screen shot which appeared a week or 2 ago on Blu-ray.com is most likely about the 1980's cartoon Transformers movie that is on Blu-ray.
It could also be an error or someone a little too trigger happy and decided to list it without any official statements.
I will not get excited about what is out or coming out until I see an official press release!

Michael Bay, the director of the 2007 Transformers movie, has left a message on his board, letting fans know that he has not lost his hope to one day release the Transformers movie on the High Definition format of Blu-Ray. The following has been taken directly from his post.
"Well another studio down. Maybe I was right? Blu ray is just better. HD will die a slow death. It's what I predicted a year ago. Now with Warner's down for the count with Blu Ray. That makes it easier for Wal-Mart to push Blu Ray. And whatever Wal-Mart pushes - wins. Hd better start giving out those $120 million dollars checks to stay alive. Maybe they can give me some so I can give it to my Make-A-Wish charity, just to shut me up. Have faith people Transformers will come out in Blu-ray one day!
Bay".
Need there more to be said? The key word is patience people.
