Canadian businessman John Bitove has been trying to his 8-city HDTV OTA station started for a couple of years now, and it appears hearings on the subject will begin in Ottawa today. Along with another network, YES TV, he wants to be the first in the
country to form a network without a series of pre-existing stations. Opposition comes in the form of CTV and Global, which aren't looking forward to the increased competition, as they are still in the process of rolling out HDTV OTA nationally. Is it at all surprising who we blame for this state of affairs?

I'm embarrassed by my country's lack of openness and foresight in the areas of television and broadcasting.
I can understand the CRTC's need to try to keep Canadian Content on the air, but it seems that almost everything they do is stifle innovation and prevent new companies from having a chance in our market.
This is just yet another example of our backwards government.

I absolutely agree with everything you said, except for the "backwards government" part. I think most Canadians and even most of the world would disagree with you.
I'd chose my government over any governemnt in Africa, the middle east, asia, the Americas and besides a handful of countries, Europe.

Are Terrance and Philip still giving each other "Canza"?

Sorry, I should have clarified that I was referring to the government in the context of technology issues...
Our government seems to be doing a good job in foreign relations and many other matters... I just wish they were more innovative and supportive of technology, innovation and standards.
For example, why are Cable Cards not being pushed by our government???
