So, 'in the not so distant future', when HD is ubiquitous, what would be the point of having both an ESPNews HD and ESPNews SD? Plus the channel names will seem increasingly silly, akin to stating 'TV Channel X - now with moving pictures!' Seriously, I haven't really read about what happens to redundant non-broadcast SD feeds in the long run - anyone?
There is a difference between HD and digital. Just because a broadcast is sent digitally doesn't mean its HD. That is the reasoning between ESPNEWS HD and ESPNEWS (SD).

"Not so distant future" being a relative term ;)
