Yeah, we Americans were already quite envious of the
Discovery HD lineup in Canada, but the Canucks are affirming said awesomeness in a newfangled survey polling viewers on which channels offered up the "best high-definition programming." Coming in only behind the nation's favorite TSN (a sports network, if you couldn't guess), Discovery HD was ranked as the best non-sports station for HD quality in the country. Furthermore, respondents aged 18 to 34 actually ranked Discovery HD above
all other channels. We're envious, sure -- but we still love ya.

ahahhaah I wish I could switch over to FiOS, but it's not available in my area yet.
Everyone else has the DHD family except cablevision... I can't freaking stand it.

And we are envious, why? Ever hear of Directv?

As a Canadian, I can tell you that you are not missing anything. Discovery HD Theater is much better.
texan @ Feb 10th 2008 8:49AM
i would like to get mythbusters in HD
Galley @ Feb 10th 2008 9:07AM

I'm envious of those south of the border when it comes to HD channel line up. Here in Canada the line up, for the most part, is a joke. Sure we have Discovery HD but come on, most HD channels here are not full time HD, and those which supposedly are, broadcast a lot of content that have been up-converted to HD and it really shows.
I just wish they would step up migration to HD at the source rather than fool us with 480p content that was up-converted to 1080i/720p.

alot of the south of the border has it as well, alot of the so called HD is just SD that has been streched , dont get me wrong we have our fair share of grand HD channels that do have 720 or 1080i but still alot of what is shown is "filler" or repeat. as far as the Direct tv comment goes i will not get my selff locked into a 2 year, if they had a month to month i would have them in a heart beat. Well other problem is i am on the first floor of an apartment complex.

As a Canadian who watches both Discovery and Discovery HD - I would say to Americans that they should know they aren't missing much. HD repeats the same old shows over and over with the exception of Daily Planet...the schedule on HD doesnt even come close to matching the schedule on the regular channel - it's a bit of a cop out actually...
ZeroTech @ Feb 10th 2008 4:24PM
Ya, I don't get it. I've had Discovery HD Theater forever and Discovery Channel HD for months now. Dish Network btw.
MARKTW @ Feb 11th 2008 11:50AM
I've been waiting for Discovery HD forever! I have Discovery HD Theater and it's by far the best HD channel
Maybe it's time to boot Time Warner and get Direct TV as the haven't added any good HD channels for quite some time...yeah we just got National Geographic HD in my area but 75% of the programs are stretchovision!

We like Discovery HD in Canda because it's all we really have, and I at least have to pay 2.99 for it, and they don;t play Mythbusters.
